35. Wow!
That's six weeks a year! You probably already know this, but the average American gets only two weeks of vacation per year, and I think that includes weekends.

Is the 29 or 30 days mandated by the government or mainly decided by corporations and other businesses? And is that six weeks straight, or can you divide up your vacation days any way you want?

39. I am not quite sure who decides how many days you get
the job I had before I "only" had 26 days. It was a private company. Now I work in the non-profit sector and my moneay comes from the government, and we get 29 days and depending on how long you are in this job the vacation days get up.

You can take your vacation whenever you want. You don't have to take it in one piece.

And yes I know that the Americans don't have very much vacation.

40. This is really interesting.
And frustrating for a Yank like me. ;)

Sorry to keep pestering you, but those are all paid vacation days, right? And at least in your job, how many additional vacation days can you accrue beyond your original 29? Like how many more days would you get after working there for one year?

41. Yes, it is paid vacation
I have to work longer than for one more year, I get 30 days. Not sure are possible in the end. I think something up to 32. But don't nail me down on that.

48. Nice!
And I know you're a young person like myself, but the fact that I could work for 40 more years in the States and still not have as many vacation days as you have right now is depressing.

But still, I congratulate you on your good fortune and applaud your country for its generosity. :hi:

50. it was funny
Edited on Thu Nov-24-05 08:43 AM by MissHoneychurch
when I was at my old job I was ok with the 26 days vacation. Then my vacation days went up to 30 (in the same job, to explain the reasons would take to long now). Anway, I suddenly had 4 more days and I didn't know what to do with them.

Edit: Right now I have 9 days left for this year. But I am allowed to take them over into the next year and use them till end of April.

57. So you could potentially have three months off per year?
Assuming you don't take any vacation one year and roll them into the next year?

60. If I take them at the beginning of the year, yes
but it would work only every three years, because you use all your vacation from one year in the next.

I'm about as English as they come - I know what you mean about London, but it has a very powerful energy to it which is a strong pull.

There have been talks of a D.U. meet-up, but I don't think that one has occured as yet. There is a U.K. forum where the folk are very charming and friendly - you'd be more than welcome over there.

56. I am here Missoneychurch
with further questions about computer use. I wish to graduate from absolute idiot to advanced moran in regards to copying and pasting. I suspect that you are at work, so at your convenience please, (when helping me does not interrupt anything.)

I tried as you suggested to right click on a photo, then clicked on properties. A screen pops up but the only further interactions do not get me anywhere.... I can not "copy" url as you suggest, nor can I do anything with it.

I was able to set up a photo-bucket account but so far I have not found a way to put stuff into it. I was attempting this with those professional photos from that link I gave you earlier, perhaps they are protected from my doing this.

I got frustrated and gave up on both. Any help you may offer up here is appreciated, please keep in mind that you are helping an illiterate Neanderthal who's "thinking cap" is on upside down...
(well I AM on the other side of the planet from you)...(a notion I am still in serious "awe" of)...(living in the future is SOOOO cool)

58. ok, let's see
Photobucket. I only know how to upload pictures from my hard drive. I just saw that you can upload pics from an URL also. Anyway, when you upload pics from your computer klick on search (or whatever it says, it says "Durchsuchen" on mine, which is German for search). Klick the pic you want, klick on "open" and then you have the path in this little "window". Then klick on submit and the pic is uploading.

When you want to copy an URL from a pic, go to properties, then mark the whole URL adress, klick right mouse say copy. Come here (or wherever you want to copy it to), right mouse, paste and voilá it should work :)

88. Ok tried that...I am missing something here...
here is photo link:
http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3893705

I went to photo placed cursor over photo right clicked and tried these 2 options:

1st: clicked on "copy". Window disapears, I come back here, open thread and right click again and the "paste" option is not open nor are any options which may be used to bring the copied material here.

2nd: (back at photo), clicked on "properties" I get a "properties" window which has:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
PROPERTIES General

a small cartoon diagram of a framed picture being sketched with jpg numbers next to it.

protacal
Type
Address/Url (photo address/url is listed here)
dimensions (gives pixel count)
created (11/24/2005)
modified (11/24/2005)

OK CANCEL APPLY (3 clickable buttons with OK and Cancel being active)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I put mouse over "Address/Url" I can further right click but "copy" "cut" "paste" "delete" buttons are not active
That is as far as I have gotten...did I mention that I booted myself offline once while attempting this? If I am hopeless here then I thank you for doing what you could...if you see something I missed, well you have my undivided attention.

92. Right click...copy button is active...
...but what next? When I run cursor over "Copy" I see in URL box at bottom of my screen: "Copies selection to clipboard". ("clipboard"???),
You have placed pretty flower here so my tasks are easier...no jumping back and forth between pages.

82. Oy you're up early...
Guten Tag! :hi: Still here, barely. I'm in the States, but since our household is half expat Canadians :P, we don't really "do" Thanksgiving - just lounge around and drink to excess for no particular reason.
