Oh joy! I have double pneumonia.
I've been feeling awful ever since we got back from Mexico on Saturday and developed a horrible hacking cough. I have asthma, so I thought I was being alarmist and put off making an appointment, but I didn't seem to be getting better. I slept soundly and almost cancelled my appointment.

Good thing I didn't. He said the pneumonia was in both lungs and even let me listen. He put me on 750 mg Levaquin and said to rest and stay in bed all weekend. I have an appointment Monday morning and he'll order X-rays if it doesn't seem like it's clearing up.

I always thought you had a fever with pneumonia, but apparently not. Lesson of the day is to trust your instincts.

21. Aha! I knew it. Alert! Alert!
It's a troll!

Oh wait, that's not sympathy. It's a bad joke.
Now where did I put my sympathy? ...rustle...mumble...jostle...fumble

Ah, there it is! :nopity: Nooo, that's not it either. How about this? :scared:
No. Dang it all. I know it's around here somewhere! I just saw it!
:argh: This is starting to annoy me. I know I had some sympathy. A galloptious full up pot of it.
Oh, there it is. Finally.

Get well twice.

2. I had it and the drugs made me feel much better in 48 hours. You
should be fine. I remember thinking that I wish my plain old colds would clear up as fast.

Drink LOTS of fluids and rest,

6. I'm sure it will be fine
I stopped at the store and got plenty of 7-up, juice and flavored water to help me with that. He said not to worry unless I started coughing up blood.

4. Stay hydrated
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 07:51 PM by LeftyMom
I had pneumonia before and wound up badly dehydrated because the antibiotics made me nauseated. Don't be afraid to go back in if you start feeling worse, I thought I was getting much sicker but it turns out it was my allergy to the antibiotic, I nearly wound up hopspitalized.

8. What a damn crappy wedding gift....
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 08:42 PM by greatauntoftriplets
I hope you have a very attentive male to nurse you as you get lots of rest and drink lots of liquids.

The triplets' mother has asthma and her doctor makes her come into see him the second she feels a cold turning into an upper-respiratory infection. Typically, he immediate puts her on strong antibiotics to prevent pneumonia.

On edit: Forgot to add feel better soon!!!

Drink lots of water. That's a strong antibiotic and you should hopefully be feeling much better soon.

11. Personal remedy
See yourself surrounded, inside and out, by gentle golden flame. Stay with the image and breathe normally. Even 30 seconds of this is a great purification and healer. Frequency helps, too, just don't go compulsive on it or you'll reap lots of compulsion. Hope you feel better.

12. I hope you feel better soon
When I had pneumonia, I felt better after a couple days of antibiotics but it can take longer to feel 100%. Definetly rest, drink lots of fluids, take your medicines, and go back if you get worse. I hope you get well soon.

13. Take care of yourself!
I spent seven days in the hospital w/ double pneumonia back in '83. I missed almost 30 days of school, too (I was 13)! Get as much rest as possible and keep yourself hydrated. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Find someone to help you, too!

16. I got one last year
and already had my flu shot this year.

Just woke up from a nap. I'm already feeling antsy. I hate bedrest, but I guess it's a good excuse for not getting the housework done.

20. Rest, rest, rest, rest, rest
Pneumonia can be deceptive - you can start feeling okay but if you overdo it, it can knock you flat. I had pneumonia back in '90 and the doc told me to rest. I had three small kids and so it was hard and though I didn't do much, I put myself right in the hospital for a week.

I have asthma too and the pneumonia left my lungs so weak that for the next several years, I got it twice a year, spring and fall, as soon as the weather turned cool and damp. Once I moved to California, they finally had a chance to heal and I haven't had pneumonia in about 8 years.

Just rest. Don't do anything. Take your meds, kick back and let yourself heal.

22. I have been hospitalized for pneuminia six times......
The last being feb 2004...

Once you have had it, the scar tissue in your lungs make it easier for you to contract it again...

take care of yourself....

Drink plenty, plenty, plenty of water....

And cough it up.....

23. Glad you got checked
my mother (age 65) has asthma and got pneumonia last summer. Unfortunately, it was from a 911 call late night and she couldn't catch her breath. She spent 3 months in the hospital and is a fraction of her former self--she doesn't have many fractions left. She's functional now, but that's about it. That's a worse case scenario.

She wished that she had made an appointment when she wasn't feeling well. Glad you're still up and about. :hi:

24. While your on the antibiotic make sure you get some good probiotics
and space them apart from the antibiotic. I was on Omnicef for bronchitis, a week later I developed c-diff from the antibiotic killing off my good bacteria in my gut.

Yogurt, Kefir, etc.. are all good options. I take VSL-3 and jarro-dopholis.

Take care and hope you feel better soon!!
