I still feel sorta new to the Lounge, and thus like I'm still trying to find a niche. But in the last few days, I've found that if you get to know people a little bit, it turns out that niches and cliques and whatnot are really non-existent, and what we perceive as those are really just our own insecurities about fitting in.

Almost every day this past week, I've connected with someone here on one level or another, and... aw, hell. You guys are just about the best people I've found anywhere.

34. First time I found the Lounge

it was thread after thread of Sex in the Lounge. Some posters were trying to talk about things happening to them, but most threads seemed to be sex on line. Skinner got pissed, and shut the crap down. Now it's become the place we come when we are sad, weary, triumphant, winning, losing, or just bored. In my darkest hours, the Lounge people interpreted my son's discharge orders for me, and made me realize that I needed to pay more attention. This is where you come when every one else has failed you.

I was petrified of the Lounge the first year or so of my registered DU life. I finally started posting here on a fluke (you can thank or blame sniffa - depending on whether or not you are glad I'm here - LOL!), and found, lo and behold, all those folks that get mentioned in subject lines and in threads here all the time -- they are mere mortals just like you and me. And most of them are among the most lovable people I've ever met!!

You have a thread here with forty responses. My last five threads probably total less than 15 responses. That is a measurable fact, and not "my own insecurity about fitting in" and it is also clearly observable that some people can post "belch" and have forty of their friends kick the thread to say hi.

As Eeyore always said "I am not complaining, just stating facts." Okay, that's wrong. I am complaining. The facts suck, as facts usually do.
