Xbox 360
If you haven't heard, it's the game of the year.

My son would like to have it for Christmas. It's all he's asked for, but I can't get one without being gouged on ebay and other sites.

Does anyone have any idea or any clues on how I may purchase one?

1. Shut his TV off...
Take him outside and throw snowballs at each other....

get him a electric guitar and rock out...

Turn his TV off...go with him to watch him skate....

Screw the X box...it is a waste of mind.

5. The poster is not being judgemental- just trying to show...
...that reality is better than an electric fantasy simulator, that's all. Especially for a young mind. Especially in these times.

8. The point is, is that the poster does not know me personally or
anything about me, other than I am a progressive democrat.

Who is anyone to say that my children don't live in reality.

I take offense when people start judging my children. Especially when they have no idea who we are.

9. That wasn't the question, though...
The poster got preachy in response to a question about where to find a specific gift.

10. nothing wrong with some video games
Me? I play Final Fantasty or Metal Gear Solid after a long day to relax.

Now if the kid is playing 24/7...different story.

7. Is it just me, or has there been an influx of "liberal" busy-bodies lately
I thought part of being liberal was being your own person, and enjoying your liberty the way you want to.

But it seems some "liberals" just want to tell others what to watch, play, listen to, or do.

Just go join the Christian Coalition. I'm tired of democrats that endorse censorship, and judgmental views, that tell people how to live their lives...

25. WalMart probably has one you can fight over...
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 04:33 PM by LeftHander
I guess the thing is I am sick of our consumer society and wondering where the xbox 360 is is just another deer in the headlights example of that.

I think for "democrats" to site idly by and let neocons take over this country while they have been pleasently distracted with the comforts of this society is reprehensible. It's okay one more xbox in the world won't hurt will it?

One more forgotten teen left alone in his room to kill virtual enemies is a great way to develop a "democratic" progressive compassionate adult mind. Solve problems with firepower!

So go...go to WalMart and spend $300 or more on a technological teenage lobotomy that is a game console.

damn I am pissy....today...

I hope the NSA is monitoring me.

2. I would wait a few months until the PS3 comes out
When a rival releases their console, that's whe competitors cut 50-100 off the price tag.

FWIW, the PS3 may also be a wiser purchase-- the specs that I've seen suggest that the PS3 will blow XBOX away.

But boys love Halo...so there you go :)

4. My brother asked a friend
who works for Microsoft about this. He said to go to a small town that has a Wal-Mart(yea,yea, I know). They are still getting shipments. Also, try to pick a rural area where the demand may not be so high. My brother lives in Raleigh, NC and it will be Feb. before they are here. The MS guy said to try Sanford that is is small town about 40 mins. south. Good Luck

6. Sorry, that's kinda what happens with "gifts of the year"...
Which is precisely why people stood in line for hours a few weeks ago for a chance to buy one. At this point you have two choices...spend a fortune on E-Bay or buy something else. The time to get the Xbox 360 at list price was about three weeks ago (and even then, you probably wouldn't have gotten one).

13. If you're determined... be at BestBuy VERY EARLY on 12/18.... list here
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 08:18 PM by Rosco T.
they will have a new shipment then. This is confirmed. But not a helluva lot. (around 50-75 per store).

(and I have one, don't be snookerd by all the bad reports... 99% of the so-called 'problems' are avoidable
and there is not a 'recall' of the hardware)

addendum...

go to www.bestbuy.com and look up the store numbers in your area...

then look at this list to see how many they will have on the 18th

I haven't been able to find one either, without the gouging. I'm giving my niece money & will include a I.O.U. for the Xbox in the card.

Four local stores will have 26 each. Maybe if four of us go to different stores, one of us will get one. Thanks again! :)

15. Promise him he'll get one next year when they're available.
Just wait till they start getting shipped out en masse after the holiday crush. Either that or call every electronics store and ask if they'll be getting a shipment in before xmas, and camp outside the store the night before they open.

18. I have spoken to him about the position we find ourselves in.
He seems to be taking it very well, like a real man.

But all I can see is hurt behind his eyes and him trying to hide it.

I know if I can't get it he will be ok with it. He's a good kid. I just hope I can get one for him.

17. Good luck!
I was in line at 6:30 am on launch day, there were people who had camped out on the sidewalk all night. The store only had 20 and they were gone very early in the morning.

I did see at Target last week....an XBOX 360 giftcard. It was right on the XBOX display under the sign that said they were all sold out and none would be available until after X-Mas. You could pick up a gift card and a game maybe?

I shopped for my friend online for her son who also wants an Xbox 360 for XMas and I found only ONE web site, but they were selling them on pre-order only until their quantity on order was gone. That was a good month ago and she called them to make sure they got her order. I'm sure they aren't to be had at this point. I saw a news report that the new XBoxes were CRASHING. You may be better off waiting anyway until their repaired software consoles come out? Target has a web site...www.Target.com. Maybe you can buy the XBOX giftcard online?

24. In all honesty...
I wouldn't get it right away. First of all, it's way too expensive. It's a nice system for sure but for some time it will be priced like this and there isn't a huge selection of games yet. AAlso, as you said it's impossible to find it, unless you are paying insane amounts on eBay.

I'm not sure whether or not you havee the originaal X Box but now might be a great time to get one. That's what I'm planning on doing. Plus, some on eBay are selling many games with it as well, and you should be able to geet that for around 200 bucks (maybe less depending on theh time of day, etc).

Also, aas Windraven X stated, the PS3 has even more impressive technical specs and may have a better selection of gamess.

Best to wait, compare the systeems and then decide which you like better.
