An acquaintance is coming back from Iraq...
Is it appropriate to ask him of his time over there; what he saw and how he felt?

1. I think you should let
him bring it up first.
IF he starts talking about it, then I feel you have the right to ask him any questions you want.
Just respect his answers and decisions concerning what may be some personal and emotional questions.

2. Let him do the talking.
I've had a few return. They need the time to get used to being back first. Eventually, most will talk.
Take him out for coffee, shoot the breeze. Let him know that he can trust you and that you will not judge him (don't say it outright, just let him know that you like talking to him).
