4. Don't try to quantify me . . .
A census taker once tried to quantify me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

or, if you prefer the original book instead of the movie . . .

I ate his liver with some fava beans and a big Amarone. Go back to school, little Starling

3. He was so scary in that movie....
It really hit me hard, watching it.....

Jodie Foster was also outstanding, IMHO.....

5. Why do you think he removes their skins?
Enthrall me with your acumen.

Clarice Starling: It excites him. Most serial killers keep some sort of trophies from their victims.

Hannibal Lecter: I didn't.

Clarice Starling: No. No, you ate yours.

6. Sorry, can't enthrall you with anything today!
No acumen here, alas......I'm in a funky mood....

So you tell ME...why does he remove their skins?

9. First principles, Clarice.
Read Marcus Aurelius. Of each particular thing ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature? What does he do, this man you seek?

and do we seek out things to covet? No, we begin to covet that which we see every day."

8. Once again, the book surpasses the movie for the dialog . . .

Did you breastfeed, Senator? Thirsty work isn't it?

Such a minor change, but to me it seem so much more . . . . Lecterish :P The whole "nipple" thing seemed just a bit brutish and unrefined for Lecter. I mean, we're talking about someone who killed a flautist for the symphony for the primary purpose of improving the symphony.

12. I agree
Thank you for your post. I always disliked that line (and, trust me, it ain't cause I'm a prude) and could never put my finger on it (pun intended).

I also don't like the change in the meaning of the title.

In the movie: the lambs screaming wakes her up and Lecter asks if the lambs are silent yet.
In the book: Clarice was appalled that the horses cried, but the lambs were silent on their way to the slaughter.

Tell me the second doesn't work better, thematically.

14. Lecter wouldn't use that line (as shown in the movie) for the same reason
he wouldn't go to Las Vegas (as stated by Starling in "Hannibal") . . . it would offend his sensibilities

10. "I won't be making a call on you, Agent Starling.
The world is a more interesting place with you in it. Now you be sure to extend me the same courtesy."

Perhaps my all time favorite fictional character, which probably says more about me that I'd care to admit.

15. I have - repeatedly
The last 50 pages would be a great basis for a master's thesis on the portrayal of abnormal psychology in literature. Clarice's, not Hannibal's.

16. I don't know, the effect of his sister's death on a 6-year-old Hannibal
might make a pretty interesting abnormal psych study in it's own right.
