The Pac 10 is....WAY OVERRATED!
Oregon who's rated #6 in the nation and almost beat USC, just lost to a unranked Oklahoma team that was mediocre to poor throughout the season. I think all the USC crazy media people in this country are about to be very dissapointed.

1. OU was not "mediocre to poor" at the end of the season
Peterson got healthy, Bomar got a clue, and his young receivers hit their stride. They are a handful now and will be all next year.
I'm a fan of a non-BCS school so I don't have a "my conference is great; yours sucks" axe to grind here.

12. long_green is right

The Sooners got off to a very bad start with the loss to TCU. But they had lost 11 starters to the NFL. TCU was able to contain Peterson & OU couldn't get an effective passing game going. The losses to UCLA and Texas were inevitable. Their only other loss was to a very good Texas Tech team at Lubbock.

They made steady improvement through the year, even with last year's Heisman runner-up out with an injury. They certainly were not "poor" by the end of the season. They had a mediocre season by Oklahoma standards, I'll give you that.

Boomer Sooner, baby!

19. They should have lost to Kansas at Arrowhead.
KU lost that game. Too bad Swanson wasn't playing well then.

28. Then Kansas SHOULD have scored more than 3 points.
I'll give you Swanson, you give me a healthy Adrian Peterson & we'll have a do-over.

29. I look forward to the next match-up. Give us another year of recruiting
with Mangino, the construction of our new $35 Mil football facility and we'll see you in '07. Game on.

Already looking forward to next year and OSU on the schedule.

Oregon played hard last night and almost one - it was a tight game last night.

The only problem was that Oregon got lazy in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and only mustered their strength when it was too late.

Oklahoma may have been unranked, but they actually had a good year this year. Most of their losses were close calls - which is why they were given such a high bowl invitation.

(I can't believe I'm defending THE DUCKS!?!?!?!?!)

4. "got lazy in the 2nd and 3rd quarters"????
Well then they only played HALF a football game now didn't they?

You couldn't even think of pulling crap like that in the SEC. See below.

5. Ahhh but despite being lazy they did prevent Oklahoma from scoring
for most of that.

The SEC gets lazy all the time - what about the Bulldogs this year? Huh?

3. Always has been always will be
The Big 10 (11) isn't just Ohio State vs. Michigan anymore but neither of them comes close to the SEC. Sorry that IS college football. USC has a great team and all that but you simply can't replicate the ferocity and competitiveness of every SEC game even when the conference is not rated that high or against the lower echelon of teams. I grew up in Va. and quickly learned two things.

the ACC is college basketball and the SEC is college football everyone else is pretending.

Sorry but that is how it is.

7. I agree
Although once again we will see two teams who haven't played in over a month getting the kinks out at the beginning of the game (okay not always). USC is head and shoulders above everyone else this year.

21. Oh, God. Thuh Sathaystern Kunfrens.
I can't stand SEC apologists...and how someone can be one and still be a member of this forum is beyond me. To me, the SEC is George Bush's America...rich, stupid, arrogant and insecure all at the same time.
The SEC had two very good teams this year; Auburn and Georgia (the only two teams in the league that could walk and chew gum at the same time on offense). The rest of the league on offense? OH! MY EYES!!!! The SEC also had three really bad football teams: Kentucky and both Mississippi teams. If you were any good, any one of those three teams were a day off. In the Pac-10, there were no days off, anyone could give you a game. Same for the Big 12.
This does not mean it's always like this. It goes in cycles. In a year or two, the SEC may be back on top.

26. Apologist?
I don't seen any apologies in that post.

First-just because the politics are a certain way (or the other) doesn't mean that you should completely base your judgement on that alone. For crying out loud it's football-politics doesn't have to determine every damned thing.

Second-don't bash the South. Seriously you look like a ....well you look foolish.

The SEC is college football whether you want to admit it or not. Hell the NFL is nothing but Bear Bryant football (speed speed speed) of the early era (before the wishbone).

8. I agree that
Oregon was overrated. No way Oklahoma was good enough to beat someone who was legitimately rated #6, though I think calling them "mediocre to poor" is a bit harsh.

However, I don't think that USC is overrated (and this comes from a Big 12 fan). Texas is going to get killed. In fact, ask Oklahoma how overrated USC is. ;)

Believe it.

The Big XII has been on a roll thus far in the bowl games. Only loser so far was Colorado. Kansas (won hugh!), Nebraska and Oklahoma have rolled.

25. Sure thing. The sting of losing 66-14 will be slightly less if they
turn out to be the National Champs. At least we twice got in the endzone - unlike Colorado in the Big XII Champ game.

Damn, KU would have been a better game. Especially since we should have won the game last year. We shoulda won the Big XII North this year.

Oh well. Looks like we'll just have to play you in the Big XII Champ game next year.

Hook 'em next week. We'll see you on the court soon enough.

34. So the excuses are
a) They played away games;
b) Some TV viewers were forced to listen to two talking heads that didn't lavish praise on OSU;
c) They couldn't play well enough to overcome bad calls.

Check.
