I just saw "Serenity" and it F*cking ROCKS!!!
I loved Firefly on SciFi and I was heartbroken when it was canceled. I was afeared that Serenity would be a let down, like so many movies based on TVseries-books-etc are but.... I am so glad it stayed true to the series I loved (before it was canceled by those goddamn fascists who are only after profits). The cast members were the same (thank the deity, It always pisses me off when they cast someone new) and I really think I should not be so thrilled about a movie cause it's so nerdy. (I feel like a Trekkie) I even watched the outtakes and the deleted scenes and the producer interviews and I'm watching it again with director commentary ON (Joss Weldon is a fucking genius!!)

1. I loved it, too!
I thought it was very well done. A few parts could have been done better, but overall, the movie was fucking fun! And well done.

I'm very pleased with it, and bought the DVD the day it came out (along with the Battlestar Galactica Season 2, because they had $10 off if I bought them at the same time!).

WOo hoo!!

YAY for Serenity!

2. The only thing that was disappointing...
was that they didn't play the theme song!

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...

you can listen to the themesong here http://www.fireflywiki.org/img/Ballad_of_Serenity.mp3

5. I never saw the series while it was on
I turned my teevee off about a year ago and rarely switch it on. But after hearing about Firefly I torrented the entire series and watched it all in a weekend marathon session, and fell madly in love with it. (This was AFTER I saw Serenity on the big screen- when I saw it I had no idea it had a whole series as a backstory.)

It's as superior and unique a science fiction concept as Babylon 5 was. It's fully developed and the characters are very much alive. And I LOVE the ship.

6. I was dragged to it by a fan (my sister) and I enjoyed it
Alan Tudyk who played...the guy who drove the ship (Chewbacca?)? I had just seen him on Broadway in "Spamalot" where he played Lancelot (I believe he took over that role from Hank Azaria). He is a very talented man.

7. Watching the DVD of the series now
I'm about half way through. It was a blind buy. And I'm not sci-fi fan. What attracted me was all the characters were human, rather than the usual mix of rubber masked alien hominids. And I like the jabs at the corporates (the Alliance) and religious nutters.

Serenity has been ordered, coming via slowboat free shipping. I'll see it when the series is done.

8. I bought the TV DVD set after seeing the movie, love all of it. Critics

were very positive about the movie, but little marketing and not very wide release so it's still largely unappreciated by many who would love it if given the opportunity. Playing my part, I gave it to my daughter.

I do suspect that two reasons Fox cancelled the series in addition to screwing up the episode broadcast order as they did were
(1) The Fox brass assumes the average Fox viewer is stupid and has a minimal attention span
(2) The plot and characterization extols freedom and careful control of goverment excesses and shows the waste and horror of war. Whereas the Fox network supports the Bushie fascists and their wars of choice.

And what do you bet Fox got phone calls from RW wingnut fundies screaming about one of the top characters being a "whore"?

9. Loved 'em both...
Have both series and movie (though right now I'm working my way through Buffy and Angel, so Firefly is a bit backburnered).

I love the firefly verse primarily because it's not so perfect as the trek verse - things get dirty, they break, they rust, good design endures... It's real. trek was, like Simon, too clean.

10. damn shiny movie
Got a bootleg DVD of it in November here in Doha, Qatar, figured there was no way that movie was going to make it to this part of the 'verse. (Ordered a legit copy from Amazon as well). Turns out it finally showed up in the local English movie theatre last week. Gorram local censors edited it slightly, (da-shiong bao-jah-shr duh la-doo-tze!), but still, nice to see on big screen.

Been turning my co-workers onto Firefly. Don't think I'm the only Doha Browncoat anymore. (Evil grin)

12. I have Serenity in my netflix queue
I just watched the series last weekend. I loved it and I'm disappointed there are no more to watch. Serenity has a "long wait," so I may just have to break down and go rent it if I don't get it soon.
