Why was she mowing the lawn if it was THAT dry?
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 10:06 AM by BiggJawn
Just heard on CBS Radio about a woman who was cutting her grass when the "heat from the lawnmower set the grass on fire,", burning up the mower, the yard, and 2 houses...

Texas, I assume...

Now, I'm friends with the QUEEN of "Cut it by the Calender, NOT the Ruler", but she even lays off in August when the stuff is brown...

1. I have neighbors who never stop mowing.
I swear they have that f*ing rideon going every damn day. I'm surprised they don't mow the snow.

My field must drive them nuts.

4. I envision the Runaway Bride, Keith Olbermann style...
mowing the lawn & starting fires with her laser beam eyes.

...but that is probably not what happened.

5. Probably operating on the idea that short grass would be less likely to...
....burst into flames. Which might have technically been true, if she had used a fucking push mower to cut it.

8. Not all lawns die
I've got Fescue in the back and Bermuda in the front, the back stays green all year.

9. Something to do I guess
She was probably so sick of looking at and listening to the old man she went out and mowed the yard. I heard another fire was started by fireworks, they didn't go into details though. That's the one I wanted to hear about Beavis and Butthead with Roman candles.

11. My neighbors are mow freaks also.
They cut their lawn so short, and then they have to water non-stop to keep it green. If they want a plush carpet look, why don't they just install some indoor/outdoor carpet and call it a day?
What is it about grass that people don't get?
Grass is a plant.
Plants produce their food in their leaves.
The blades of grass are their leaves.
The shorter the blade the less leaf to produce food.
The blades of grass also shade the roots to keep them cool and stress-free.

The waste of water bothers me the most.

13. Our way, if left to it
would be to not mow until the little dog (pug cross) can no longer be seen. However, we have a code enforcement officer in this area who has a stick up his ass and if you don't mow at least twice a week in the summer you end up with a $150 ticket. (Right now we have a warning because our lawn is too high and it Dec. for cripes sake) Same guy who gave me a warning for not being there with a shovel under my dog's butt when she took a dump. In my own fenced yard with a locked gate.

14. Must be the Mayor's BIL...
Geez, Louise, even when I lived in the "Big City", they only gigged you when it got taller that a foot.

Even with copious rain it would only grow maybe 6" in a week....
You're right, he's got the whole damn TREE up his ass.

15. simple: she's stupid.
anyone living in texas right now knows that their lawn is dry as 3 week old crap. And if she lives in texas and has so for a period of time, would also know that there hasn't been any rain in weeks, if not months in some areas. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that it's dry.

17. People are idiots
We had a bad fire in this area last year from someone mowing in August when the grass is dead.

I dunno if it's this way all over the country, but here in California if they find out who started the fire, they make you pay for fighting it, even if it's accidental. I think that fire cost over 2 million dollars.
