I lost my old dog but found him again
We got separated in the woods this morning. The thing is, he can barely hear, so it was up to me to find him. Eventually he found some other people to hang out with and they found me. Its very cold out so it was a little scary. Now we are warm and re-united.... I won't let him out of sight again.

1. So happy that you found him.
My son's old and deaf Cocker wandered off and the animal control picked her up. Unfortunately, they euthanized her before my son found out that she was at the pound.

I would be devastated if I lost my Rottie. She is my big fur child.

2. Good. Have you tried scent training him to come when
"called?" Maybe you could train him to answer to the scent of strawberries or something like that. Okay, I'm crazy for even thinking of that idea, but I would hate to see someone miss out on getting to do what I dream of doing when I get enough of an income to have a dog and go on walks in the woods with her. Oh, my dream gets sweeter every minutes. I can just envision my perfect little walks in the woods and going fishing with my dog when I get her one day...

3. Taking him for walks in the woods is the best part of the day
I don't fish, but my dog is very friendly to the fishermen. He is 13 years old and a little willful- I kept calling him to follow me across the ice and he just laid there on the ice and finally turned and went back in the woods. I went around to meet him that way and he changed his mind and came across the ice. Luckily he knows he needs someone to take care of him so he always finds people he thinks would take care of him if he lost me!

4. Can't say I blame him on the ice. I don't
like walking on ice if I can help it. I'm sure glad you found him. He sounds like the type of dog I would befriend out in the woods. I tend to make friends with every animal I meet, except spiders. It is probably a good thing that he found some people so he could get back to you.

5. He was from the dog pound
and he has always been good at finding "backups". I once boarded him at a vet clinic- after the first night he slept in bed with the vet and his wife because they couldn't stand to leave him alone in the clinic at night!

6. awww you have to love a doggie that loves to be loved so much! I hope
you've got a tag with your number on it, on the old boy. I had a poochie that liked to go visiting, and his little tag got him returned numerous times.

Sounds like a great vet too. There is nothing better than a vet that really loves your critters.

7. Why not get a herding training lead?
They run about 40 ft, lightweight. Or a 26 ft. Flexi. It'll give him the room to roam and explore and you the peace of mind of knowing that he can't disappear completely.
