Any fans and/or former players of Zork or Scott Adams...
...adventures?

I used to play both of these as a kid, on our first Apple computer. Really miss the simple format of these games. Simple format, complex with many layers to explore through play...

Anyone play these, or am I the only adventure game geek here? :hi:

7. There is a seedy looking gentleman carrying a large bag...
:hi:

I loved that game so much! Got really far in it and saved it to a floppy diskette only to have my younger brother save something over it, destroying my file and progress.

9. Which did you play?
Zork or Adams Adventures? Or both?

I didn't know anyone was making text adventures these days--I LOVE those!

13. Zork 1 and 2, and a few others. The Hithchhikers game was one of
the earlier ones, I just ran across a copy of it my friends junk drawer of PC stuff a while back :P

It's not new by any means. More like 84 or so if I'm not mistaken. . . here's a link

6. Plugh!
We had ADVENT on the HP-1000 at the university back in 1977. The precursor to ZORK.

"A fierce huge green snake bars the way!"

8. How cool!
I loved how playing them depended on one's ingenuity and creativity--they forced you to think. Very different from many of today's games that are more dependent on hand eye coordination and learning to move quickly.

Scott Adams games only allowed you to use two word commands--so challenging!

12. Yes, you did--
I don't get why they haven't created versions that are compatible with today's computers. I would buy the whole series in a heartbeat!!!

17. Cool!
Thanks for the links! I found a way to actually play some of the Scott Adams games on-line in the wee hours of the morning. When I find it again, I'll try to post a link. I hope I really found it, and it wasn't a hopeful hallucination I manifested in my mind. LOL!

16. LOL!
I don't know which was more frustrating, being eaten by a grue or having the thief steal your stuff before you could get it back to the treasure area.

19. You can play Hitchhiker's Here--
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/game.shtml

Almost all of the other games (Infocom put out a LOT of text games)were repackaged as first "The Lost Treasures of Infocom" http://www.csd.uwo.ca/Infocom/ltoi.html and then as "Infocom Masterpieces" on multiplatform CD-ROMS. http://www.csd.uwo.ca/Infocom/masterpieces.html

This site has downloads for the Zorks, but I haven't tried it myself yet so I can't vouch for it at all...http://www.csd.uwo.ca/Infocom/

I love those games...:)
