Hey, sarge -- if you're who I think you are, welcome back to DU and drop me a line sometime. All is well in Saginaw.
John
Possibly related to you. If I'm right, say hi to Jim for me.

My e-addy changed. I don't have yours. You still have our phone number? If so, give me a fast call tomorrow and we'll do catch up.

Jim says hi backatcha.

5. Five cents
That woulda been around 1962, when I was 6.

As for gas, in 1962 we rode a price war all the way to Washington and back. Paid as little as 20.9. Seems like the average then was about 28-30.

So both gas and postage have gone up about 8x in 40-something years. Seems like that's about standard for most items.

8. Nostalgia...
Remember when there was no self service at gas stations? And kids were kept quiet in the car by having us watch the other cars for license plates or colors...

And a long distance phone call was a BFD.

This whole online thing still amazes me.

Course I'm talking UK currency here.

I have seen pictures of the first UK stamp - the 1d 'Penny Black'. But I wasn't around then.

Which reminds me, give me LSD any day of the week. More of the L, less of the S and not so many D please. (UK pre-decimal currency - 12 pennies (d) to the shilling (s) - 20 shillings to the pound (L). The £ symbol when wrote in the cursive hand looks more like the letter l than the £ symbol we see today.

24. I use snail mail 2-3 times per month-
used to be a lot more. 39 cents is an incentive to pay online when you can.
