Anybody else losing their ability to spell?
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 10:43 AM by Richardo
I posted the other day about someone's 'embouchure' and spelled it 'embrochure'.

This despite the fact that I was an unrepentant band nerd in high school. And someone had to point out the misspelling to me.

I've found that I'm having to stop and think about other spellings, too. :(

(As Rain Man: "I was always an EXCELLENT speller. Excellent.")

1. Don't look now...
But, you need to work on grammar and punctuation too!

"band nerd in high school. And someone had to point out the misspelling"

I'm thinking you're exposed to some right wing language corruption somewhere.
You'd better have it looked into. ;)

2. Nothing wrong with starting a sentence with 'And.'
:)

5. It's a fragment...
Better read by dropping the "And" and starting a second sentence with
the word "Someone".

But, what do I be knowing...

7. It's a casual message board...
And I'm usually the grammar-nazi around here.

9. I'm grammar feisty today.
Typically, I don't give a darn.

Sorry.

12. I think you have your answer
in your own message line.

You've grown lax because it's just a "casual message board".

We must be ever vigilint! wait - uh - vigilent no vigelant er - um - viji - oh hell - on our gaurd!

3. I'm losing my ability to apostrophate properly.
(And no, I don't know if "apostrophate" is a word, but I make them up all the time -- that's nothing new.)

I *know* the rules, and I can catch them on edit -- but there are a scary number of edited threads where I've had to remove or move an apostrophe. This is bad, coming from a current editor, future lawyer and perpetual-yet-hypocritical punctuation nazi.

6. Embouchure? You used that in a DU post?
Band geek. You probably played the clarinet (double band geek.):P

Oh wait. That wasn't your question. Something about composing at the keyboard ruins my spelling and grammar. I also have discovered how to use the incorrect homophone two. (n.b. that's intentional homophone abuse.)

13. My issue: starting a capitalized word with two capital letters.
MS Word takes care of that problem for me most of the time, so when I type elsewhere I have to constantly make sure I don't capitalize the first two letters. :dunce:

My spelling is fantastic; it's my typing that sucks.
