OK, I have no idea where to start so I thought maybe someone in the lounge would have a few suggestions...
My dad served in both the army and the navy (longer in the navy, and he was married while in the navy) in the late 40s (I think) and definitely into the 50s. My mother (his second wife, first wife deceased) thinks he had a paid-in-full military life insurance policy, and my dad, whose lethargy and indifference knows no bounds, hasn't checked into it in a looong time. He's 77 and ailing, Mom is younger and ailing, and wants to know what her resources are/will be, if any.
My mom wants to know the status of this policy - if it still exists - and has asked me to make a few preliminary inquiries so I can then prod my dad to update his named beneficiaries. Family dynamics are really weird, don't ask, I could never explain.
So the question is - anyone know how I can find out about these old policies? The more info I can give my dad, the more likely he'll be to investigate and do something if something needs to be done.
I'm going out for a few hours, but any replies are appreciated; I'll check in this evening.
Thanks!
