I just bought 4 boxes of Girl Scout cookies! Yes, it's THAT time again.
2 boxes of Thin Mints, (of COURSE!) and 2 boxes of Samosas, ordered from my daughter's third grade classmate, who just showed up at our door, unexpectedly. She's walking the neighborhood with her mom. What was I gonna say?? "No, thanks, honey." I don't think so.

My kids were practically beside themselves with joy. What we do for our children.... sigh.

Get ready, people. The Girl Scouts are coming...and they've got cookies.

2. One of the Sunday School girls I know is selling them...
I plan to order a few boxes.

My own daughter is a Girl Scout, but she's a Daisy (first year - kindergarteners), and Daisies don't sell cookies.

4. I'm sure your kids probably don't think so!
:)

yeah, I noticed they had a couple of new options this year. I'm sure you bought all those in the interest of checking for quality control, right?

5. We've already delivered ours.
And we're hatching a plot for next year. The leader and myself(I'm the assistant) have decided that neither of us will be Cookie Mom next year. Instead, we'll rope in the mother who never volunteers for anything to do it.
We already have our victim.

9. LOL!!
Very shrewd plan, xmas74. Good luck with that. :)

I'm happy to say my 9 yr old daughter has never shown the slightest interest in joining up....which is a huge relief to me.

Nope, I volunteer in her classroom regularly and drive on field trips, that's about it.

11. I'm room mom,
assistant GS leader, soccer coach, tball coach and soon to be bowling coach. Now they're trying to get me to "volunteer" to be a Sunday School teacher. Me! With the foul mouth I have I shouldn't even be allowed in a church, nonetheless around children!

BTW-Cookie Mom is the worst of all jobs. You get to handle the money, run all the forms, make sure that the forms have been returned, deliver the cookies if the girl who sold them cannot, sell off extra cookies or order more cookies as needed.
The worst part of the job? You have to store the entire troops cookies in your home until it's time for the girls to pick them up and deliver them. You usually have them for a week. You get the cookies, sign off on the delivery, go through the order forms and divide them up for each girl on what was ordered.
I prefer the role of Camping Mom.

Damn, girl, you don't have to do EVERYthing! Sounds like your plate is FULL enough.

18. I'm not going to be the Sunday School teacher.
That's already been decided. I do enough and give up enough of my time as it is.
Wish I had a little bit more time to go out and do something for myself.

19. Don't you find that being a mother is a lot about creating
Balance? Balance between what we are constantly giving OUT and what we are allowing ourselves to receive, in terms of self-care. It's a delicate dance and one that I personally struggle with.

26. I struggle w/ it every single day.
And I struggle w/ the loss of my identity. Sometimes I wish people knew me for who I was instead of just being soandso's mom. Heck, I wish people would call me by my real name.

I changed my name once to Edwina. My daughter thought it was funny. She sometimes still calls me that.

Yeah, I was a bit relieved NOT to be getting them at the same time we were ordering them. Too much of a temptation. I'm trying to be strong in my resolve of NO SUGAR. It's not working that well, sadly. heheh.

Welcome to DU, btw! I REALLY like your sig line, for obvious reasons.... :)

the choc. samosas and thin mints won out. 4 boxes was enough, imo, although the kids would've been thrilled had I bought ALL of the varieties.

34. Fortunately, I need another root canal...
As difficult as it is to resist figure-altering Thin Mints and Samosas (my favorites, too!), the prospect of tooth pain will not allow me to consume them.

Not to worry though...I'll buy plenty for my kids. :D

36. My daughter is a girl scout. She hasn't sold any yet.
She wants to go door to door, but I am not comfortable with that. I think it sometimes puts people who don't have the money on the spot. She wanted her dad to take the order to his office in NYC. We, however, live in VA.

I told her I would buy a bunch and I know some of my friends will because they were ticked off that I didn't mention it last year, so she will be fine.

39. That's so sweet of you. I am sure the little ones hanging out in
front of your grocery store will appreciate your generosity.

My problem is I buy a lot, freeze a bunch and then the teenagers eat them all. In 1-2 days.

37. I didn't know any Girl Scouts still walked the neighborhood
I thought they all sent the forms to their parents' job or ambushed people outside the supermarket. Seriously, I was a Girl Scout myself and I always buy a few boxes but how refreshing to read that someone was actually putting some legwork into it!
