IANAL .. Thats cool.

Say a certain person from the (glorious) U.S.A married a person with dual citizenship (USA and Canada). She lives in LA and I want to live in B.C.

She would remain in Los Angeles and I would move to Vancouver B.C.

The marriage would be a total sham. Any clues about the legality of the situation. I'm sure this would be illegal.. I'm curious about the odds of getting busted.

And could I find housing and employment under such a situation? Is a waiting period imposed?

And this is just to get some info.. I have a meeting with a lawyer next week.

edit--fixed the plural

1. I know you're interviewed separately...
the immigration folks ask you all kinds of personal questions, to conclude whether or not you actually cohabitate. You're asked the same questions separately, and if your answers don't line-up, you're "busted".

Everything from "what colour is your spouse's tootbrush?" and "how many cousins does your spouse have?" to more intimate stuff.

2. Another hint: They're not looking for total accuracy, but HOW you answer.

Your demeanor. Whether your answers come a little too quickly or too rehearsed.

I have no idea what color my own toothbrush is. I don't even have a good count of how many SIBLINGS my SO has, let alone cousins (complex family with estrangement, etc.). But I could answer truthfully and probably pass an immigration interview.

And, on edit: Yes, this is illegal.
