From the Midland Police Department -(nothing was changed from this)
I've read this over and over and it still doesn't make sense.

AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD

Midland Police arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

Joe Munoz, Jr. (1-23-64) was arrested last night, January 30, 2006, following an outcry from a young female victim. The assault occurred seven years ago in an east Midland residence.

It was reported to police last night. The victim and suspect are known to each other.

1. Did he assault her?
She may have been afraid to make a claim. Don't know.

5. I don't know. That is all the information I got. Sounds like
someone is drunk on the job as it came directly from the Police Department. I do volunteer work for some senior groups and part of the program is getting up dates from the PD on the happening in the community. Even though a lot of the stuff doesn't pertain to me.

Thought at first I may have misinterpreted the e-mail.

2. Well, apparently Joe was arrested for something that happened 7 years ago.
The victim just came forward last night. And they knew each other. Oh, and Joe is 42. Does that help it make sense?

3. Other than the assault taking place at all, it makes perfect sense to me.
Good for the Midland Police. Good for the survivor.

May Munoz (if he is guilty) get what's coming to him.

4. I would think (hope) the police have a really good reason
for thinking that this occurred. Perhaps they have been investigating him for a while, and/or they have additional evidence beyond the complaint?

("outcry" is an odd word here.)

7. "outcry" indeed threw me. I took it to mean that her scream or
yelling alerted someone to report the incident. Then only to find out that the assault was seven years old.

In light of what I'm reading now, I'm starting to thing it may be sour grapes.

10. What makes you think it may be sour grapes?
If one suddenly remembers a long-buried, hidden, ignored incident, what makes it "sour grapes" to bring it up now?

It seems you find this scenario fishy. Am I wrong?

11. Most don't....I cannot wait for the day when a victim is not looked upon
as imagining until proven to be a victim. :(

13. Changes do need to be made to the help the victim more. But on the
other hand there are innocent folks being released everyday from prison and from death row because DNA didn't match in rape cases.

So it is a two way street MrsGrumpy!
