Il Divo: proof of the end-times, fabulous practical joke or Devo reunion?

The other week, I saw a commercial for these guys, including an operatic rendition of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself." I literally thought it was a joke, a skit somebody was doing. This morning, I was looking at the crawler on Headline News and learned that these personages have the #1 album in America. Is this another William Hung thing or do they suck less when they're not doing Eric Carmen? I'm honestly at sea here.
