Hey! Ice Crashing -- I mean Dancing -- is on!

The second couple (Americans) is up right now. A French couple went first. Seems to me the skaters are not skating as frenetically as they did last night. (And so far, no total horrors in costumes).

There were so many couples falling, it was amazing. I've never seen anything like it, especially in ice dancing! One couple had to pull out of tonight's competition, because she was so badly hurt in her fall.

I just posted on another thread... but they are way far ahead of us west coasters!

So anyway, now that you just mentioned the American team (Silverstein and O'mara) how many times has NBC managed to work in her eating disorder?? I swear this has to be number 2 this evening. I give her credit for being so open about her treatment, but c'mon. There has to be another bit of trivia about her that they can touch upon... do they have to make everything into an after school special??

And yes, NBC had to make the point SEVERAL TIMES about the eating disorder. I agree -- it's great that she was open about her treatment and such, as that can be beneficial to others who have an eating disorder. But sheesh. I'm sure this woman is multi-dimensional, and it would be nice to hear something else about her!

When NBC shows the last two groups skating, there are some real beauts among those skaters. Fusar-Poli and Margolio from Italy costumes truly are horrific... I didn't think anything could be as bad as what they had on last night, but this is even worse.

8. Okay this is off topic, but did anyone catch those Olympic Fun Facts??

The one where some idiot news hound from NBC decided it was important to highlight how rich the freestyle skiing Gold Medalist from Australia is (apparently he's an internet pop-up millionaire), and how penniless a Curler from Great Britain is (her husband's Software company went bankrupt and she's on the UK's equivalent of welfare). WEll fucking done NBC... that's some prize winning journalism there. I'm sure the woman from England is really happy that you found her only noteworthy item from her bio to comment on is her financial struggle. I can't imagine why people call us "ugly Americans" when we do stories like that. :eyes:

I actually think that NBC has done a pretty good job covering the skating events. We've seen far more performances in each of disciplines so far than they did in 2002 in SLC.

I absolutely love the "Olympic Ice" show on USA in the last afternoon. It's a real hoot to watch..

I know everyone has been bitching about Dick Button's commentary but I do think he's the best. But then again I'm so used to him and his snarky comments, they don't bother me anymore. Bottom line, Mr. Button has seven US titles, 1 European title (1948) and 2 Olympic Gold medals. He has the cred to be snarky about skating.

I know... I know... but he's right. Torvel and Dean recieved a perfect score from ALL of the judges on that routine and yes, they don't own the rights to it... but yes, they kinda do. It would be like another gymnist doing a routine to "Nadia's Theme" (aka Theme to Young and the Restless)... it was a milestone in Olympic history, and it kind of stands alone. The Israeli team should have known they'd be compared to Torvel and Dean when they chose that music and in turn kinda brought this on themselves... out of all the music possibilites out there, I would have chose something else if it were up to me.

Now... back to aming fun of costumes!!
