Bizarre sense of loyalty
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 12:06 AM by AlienGirl
So I just posted the first journal entry about this year's Big Adventure over on my Slashdot diary; and I feel this completely odd sense that by revealing Edward Manuel's identity as the guy who planned to kill me, I'm somehow betraying him.

Thing is, I liked the guy. He was friendly, if a bit odd, and I kind of miss chatting with him. Nice guy, except for the whole homicide thing. And I know he had a belief that he would be doing me a favor, and I feel upset that he might be embarrassed to have his secret so publically revealed.

Is this weird, or what? I have this misplaced feeling of loyalty to a man who *was going to kill me*. Bah, sometimes my mind doesn't even make any sense to me.

Tucker

2. I don't know what I'm talking about but...
Sounds like a book to me. Anyway, it is easy to feel sorry for someone who technically hasn't done anything, but got caught (I asumme he hasn't done anything, thank god). So I'm sure the loyalty thing is a side affect of your feeling sorry for him.

4. He claimed 12 murders...
So far, the only thing anyone's been able to link him to is my case, but he claimed in private IMs that he'd killed 12 women already.

Personally, I think he had killed at least once before what he was planning to do to me. But I can't prove it.

6. Keep in mind
Most people who knew Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy thought they were very nice fellows too. Most serial Killers seem completely benign and are very, very good at getting people to drop their guard around them. They learn behaviors that get people to trust them, and see them as good, or at least harmless. That's how can take advantage of their victims. I remember when you posted about your case. Keep reminding yourself that it was all a sick manipulation. He went in search of vulnerable people and manipulated them into letting him kill them. Do you think that if you or they would have changed their mind while it was happening, that he would have stopped?? I think, if he did, in fact, kill others he would have rationalized that they still wanted it done and proceeded.
I see a lot of parallels with his sick mind and that of a rapist. Would you feel pity on him if he was corresponding with you to rape you? I think what he did is like mental rape as well as murder. He got people to trust him, connived to use their depression and hopelessness to feed his sick desires and then, when they have served his purposes, he moved on to the next.
He never, never, never, had any care or consideration for you no matter what he said. He was a grand schemer who preyed on the vulnerable. He was the lowest form of slime who was good at talking a game. You should rightfully be proud that he is locked up.

Tucker, you are a valuable asset to this community here. I think the most important thing you could do is appreciate that value, or at least, recognize that there are those of us who care what happens to you . This monster sought to steal your light from us,and others who care about you to forward his own twisted agenda.
You did a good thing, allow yourself to be loved and appreciated for it. Most of all, have faith in yourself enough to know that you made the right decision.

3. Forget about this insane person...
I think you need to realize that this guy is a mess and you need to get him out of your mind. Forget about him. He's a person who wanted to kill you. He may say it was for your benefit. But, it was for his benefit. He wants to play God, making decisions about who should live or who should die. The ultimate power trip. He's lying to you. He sounds like Bush, who calmly claims he is saving Iraqis when he is really doing it to line his pockets with money while thousands die, and at the same time, making himself look like some hero.
