My wife wants me to get my pilot's liscense
Anybody got any money they can er lend me?

But I am serious. I think she is sick of me daydreaming about it. I am going to start the process. Then then I will not be shackled to this planet and fly away

1. I want to get one too...
...unfortunately the costs run into the thousands. Then, once you get your license, you're going to want to fly. Even renting a plane gets pricey.

I need to win the lottery. :-)

2. Yea I know.
But even one solo would be a fantasy come true. And then the second flight to join the mile high club and I could die a happy man. I guess I could start a group here at DU.

Give to DEMMAN group. LOL

4. My dad got his pilots license about 25 years ago...
Shortly after that he bought his first airplane. It was actually cheaper than constantly renting.

Shortly after that, he and my mom started arguing about the costs associated with maintaining a pilots license.

"Either me or the Airplaine, one of us has to go", my mom would say.

Shortly after he married his second wife the same argument started again.

"Either me or the Airplaine, one of us has to go", my stepmom would say.

His third wife, well she was more tolerant at first since soon after my dad married her, he bought her a new sports car. But once the car started to get a little old and she started thinking about her next car, the arguments started again...

"Either me or the Airplaine, one of us has to go", my stepmom would say.

His fourth wife, well the dumb ass remarried his thrid wife and bought her a new sports car again, but within a couple of years of being remarried...

"Either me or the Airplaine, one of us has to go", my stepmom would say.

His fifth wife was a smart one. I liked her the best of all of my stepmoms. Shortly after they got married, she got her pilots license and told my dad...

"Leave if you want, but I'm keeping the airplane".

Unfortunately, this one eventually broke apart for other reasons. But it lasted much longer than all the others, except for the one to my mom.

His sixth wife, well, it's still a little too early to tell how that one's going to work out.

5. I've always wanted to do that...
...but I think that's on my list of 10,000 that sound like fun but I'll never get to (as opposed to my list of 10,000 things I plan to get to before I die, but are unlikely, ex: hike the Appalachian trail, or the list of things I will really try to do before I kick off, ex: build a house or squat 500 lbs)

Is it cheaper to get a pilot's license for sailplane flying? I went on a ride once on a sailplane - it was really a magical experience. No noise except for some wind, you catch a thermal to climb higher, wonderful.

If you REALLY want to fly, try skydiving! Damn, that was so much fun when I did that at age 18. I had so much adrenaline in me after touching down that I'm pretty sure I could have walked on water since my body felt weightless. The wife does not approve of such things these days tho :(

7. Tandem is what I did
It was a great experience - you get longer free fall than with a static line jump, and your partner takes care of stabilizing the fall and keeping an eye on the all-important altimeter :-)

I'll never forget the jump...I'm standing on the landing gear of a plane 10,000 feet up and the guy says "on 3" "this is better than sex" "1, 2" and he jumped. I caught a glimpse of the plane receding overhead as we tumbled briefly. Wow, does gravity accelerate you fast!! 5000 feet in 30 sec or so, then the I pulled the ripcord and you get to dangle your feet a mile above the ground and think about your mortality :-)

8. DO IT!
I have my private license, but due to money issues, I am not active right now. I will be back in the sky as soon as I pay off my farm and house. (five years)
I am leaning towards a homebuilt rv-7.
