Question about gas pumps and debit cards

This ocurred to me today while pumping gas (which, by the way, is now $3.09 per gallon in San Diego, for the cheapest grade). Say you are using a debit card, and you have, for example, $10 in your bank account. You swipe your card and enter your pin #, the pump connects to the bank and gets an authorization for the transaction. What happens if you go over $10 worth of gas? Does the pump stop at $10, or does it keep going and your bank pays it, then charges you an overdraft fee? Just wondered this while watching the numbers fly at record speeds.

1. I have noticed lately, that when I get cash from the ATM,

there is a disclaimer that says I will be charged an overdraft fee if there is not enough money in my account. I have to say OK before it will proceed with the transaction. So my guess is, the bank would pay it and charge you an overdraft fee.
