Nothing fancy. I just want to scan stuff.

1. HP...I don't know which one (it's downstairs) but I got it for 19.99 with
a 3 dollar rebate. Total price 16.99. It's the one with the clear cover. It's scans beautifully. :hi:

2. Is that all they cost?
And here I was imagining having to get one of those 800-in-1 thingys for $6000. :P

4. Actually, I got one of those 800-in-1 thingys for $85
HP brand new in the box on eBay. Got it at least 2 years ago and it works great. Never had a problem with it.

It's amazing how prices have come down on technology.

5. eBay doesn't like me.
I manage to find all the really "special" sellers on eBay. But I do just fine in a regular store. :D

3. Epson - any model. I've had a bad history with Microtek and...
HP.

Microtek is cheap; even in cost. So you know what you get.

I switched to Epson in 2003; HP was pricey so I thought "quality". Much like Carly Fiorina, the products sold under her tenure (and even now) are cheap garbage, with a predeliction for failing after an unfairly short period of time.

Glad she got fired, but her replacement seems to be carrying on more or less the same philosophy.

Figurehead leaders. Are leaders of no sort.

So when Michael Dell goes to Hell, expect nothing different from that slopartist company either.

6. My computer is a Dell.
I was naive at the time. :hide:

So, any scanner except Microtek, HP, or Dell, correct?

7. FWIW, an Epson only lasted 4 months for me...the HP? Going on two
years. :)

8. Oh really?
Hmmm. My camera is an HP, actually, and it's not too bad.

9. I've had several over the years, and...
they seem to be getting tinnier as we go along. And the actual scanning seems to have been better with a few in the past that aren't made any more. It's not the dpi resolution or anything else they brag about that's important, but the algorithms for scanning, and expensive scanners like Agfa's had the money spent on developing good software, and some of the cheaper ones were pretty good, too. Nobody seems to care about it for cheap scanners now.

However, now I'm using an HP 3970 that I got for around 80 bucks new a while ago, and it does the job. Works as well as any cheap scanner, and seems reasonably sturdy.

I needed a film scanner when my good one broke, so this has one in the lid-- the ones without the film scanner were 10-15 bucks or so less.

OfficeMax, Staples, BestBuy and CompUSA are always having sales, and then there's Costco and the other places.

You could grab a used scvanner if you see it, and the drivers are almost always available online for download if the disk is missing.

13. Canon is good?
I used to have a canon printer. It never gave me problems, until it died.

15. I like Canon a lot
They've always been really good for me, printers scanners and cameras.

When I sold Canon, my customers all agreed.

12. I've got an HP Scan Jet 4300C
that has served me well for about seven years.

I suspect they can be gotten pretty cheaply these days.
