These are the things that are supposed to happen to other people. He had just gotten word that the divorce (a good thing) was going through, we were seeing more of him, planning a vacation... He has it in him to fight, so I am cautiously optimistic.

90. Fighting is key

My good friend's mother was diagnosed with acute luekemia in November. She was given a 40% chance of just surviving chemo. Guess what?

She's in remission. A positive attitude and support from friends and family are key.

My doctor still tells me that my positive attitude went a looooonnnngggg way toward my quick recovery from brain surgery.

She eats a few bites at breakfast, but refuses other meals. She lost 10 lbs last month, before she stopped eating. It may be a short period of not eating or this may be the end. One day at a time.

66. My grandmother is on a medication called Megace, because she

was doing the same thing. It is a medication often used to treat anorexia and chemo patients. It really worked for my grandma we just have to make sure she takes it. :hug: I'm so sorry.

91. When I became a pharmacist in the early 70's...

Megace was use in most women after giving birth to stop lactation. Now it is used in breast cancer and as an appetite stimulant (Especially in AIDS patients).

I think my Mother's problem is her heart failure. (She has Atrial Fib., damaged ventricles and congestive heart failure.) A lot of heart failure patients lose their appetite because there heart is so weak. They might try Megace, but I doubt it.

They are 99.9% sure it is cancer, but it still appears localized, which is good. His PSA's were up so there is slight concern over his prostate, but they will do a full body scan because of the length of time this has been in his system. He has an appointment (on my birthday of all days, so it has to go good) to discuss his options for removal of the kidney. An oncologist will decide what course of treatment they will take once they are sure that the cancer is localized. He has one of the best (so says his doctor) urologic oncologists in the country on the case. I hope for the best.

I knew it would be a rough day when I realized my father's mortality...I guess I just thought nothing bad could ever happen to my daddy. He's the tough one. He's the one who sees me through. I see it now as a chance to pay him back for all he's done my whole life through. One call and he's there for me. I intend to do the same.

My only worry is that he won't "take it easy". Already today, he was gunning for laprascopic because it meant only an overnight stay... I know his line of thought and if we let him, he'd be back to work the following day. Keeping him still will be tough. Thanks for your encouragement.

On a really bright note...He asked me if I had told anyone because he doesn't want the family knowing. I told him no. Only MrG and a few thousand of my dearest cyber friends. I let him know that he had a ton of good vibes behind him. Someday, I'll get him to post on here.

You are all the best of humanity. I have tears in my eyes reading through the thread (s). I am printing them out to share with him along with those wonderful stickies. Thank you for always being there.
