Look, if it ain't cola (Coca-, Pepsi- , RC, Jolt, etc.) it's just soda.
Unless you know it to be Fanta, Sprite, 7 Up, rootbeer, etc. In which case you may refer to it by the appropriate name, brand or generic. Under no circumstances will you refer to the said soft drink as "pop." Where the fuck do you think you are, Bumblefuck, Wisconsin?

people calling it "pop." Pop? WTF is that? I am from Northern NY and we never called it "pop."

My wife is from Wisconsin and we argue about this all the time.
