1. He suffers from Matthew McConaughey syndrome.
If he wasn't good-looking, he'd get nowhere with his total lack of talent.

On the flipside, talented comics like David Cross and Patton Oswalt would be doing much better if they looked like they stepped out of the pages of GQ.

4. David Cross is probably one of the most successful comedians right now
he's had a sizable and loyal wealthy fanbase for a decade (since Mr. Show started) and in the last few years he's become a certified icon.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had as much in the bank as the arena-selling-out Cook. Although he's certainly taken longer to accumulate it.

6. He's done well, but not as well as Cook.
Cook had a Billboard Top 10 album, and as far as I know, Cross hasn't (though he deserves it). Also, Cross' material is way more edgy and relevant than Cook's mundane observations -- people love when you don't rock the boat.

7. Dave has been a headliner for a decade, and has residuals from a ton

of projects, including the Mr. Show DVD's. I don't know of any standup comedian who's made the majority of their money from album sales. Live shows are generally a much larger fraction of their income. And Dane Cook has only risen far above the comedian median in the last year and a half.

There's no doubt that his 2005 salary is probably atleast 3 times what David Cross' 2005 salary was, but I'm talking about their net worth.

I'm not even really comparing Dane Cook and David Cross to start out with, I'm just saying you shouldn't poopoo Daves success. It's one of the most enviable in all of comedy. Both are probably in the top ten right now.

8. I'm not denying Cross' success.
It's just that his success seemed to take longer than Cook, who seemed to pop up almost overnight for no reason at all.

2. I Don't Get It Either
If he were as funny as he thinks he is, or if his funniness equalled his belief in his looks, he'd be King of Funny. As it is, he's merely an assclown.

5. There was a sharp decline from his first album to his second
and it's not as if his first album was anything stellar. He relies on what pleases dumb annoying chicks (and dumb, annoying confused guys) far too much

12. I recall him talking about Christ-Chex.

It was a really funny bit about Catholicism when he first arrived on the scene, about the same time the amazing but now deceased Mitch Hedberg arrived.

9. It's all about the delivery with Cook, I think.
If anyone else was telling the jokes, I don't think I'd find it all that funny, but with Dane, I can't help but laugh. But that's me.

13. I think he's funny
I didn't see Tourgasm, and when I heard his album I just sort of shrugged my shoulders. The audio didn't do it for me. What won me over was when he was on SNL. He was, imho, the best guest host they've had in many years. His monologue/standup was taken right from his routine, and I thought it was hilarious (some of it parts I had heard on audio and was very 'meh' about). I think he uses physicality (not looks, but more of how he uses his body positioning or arm movements) to tell the jokes and stories. I wish I had kept that episode of SNL on my DVR to watch a few more times. Very funny.

Still that's the thing with comedy. Plenty of people loved Rosanne back in the day and thought she was hilarious. Personally I couldn't stand her whining voice and didn't find her funny at all. Different people find different things funny. Just because you don't like Dane Cook doesn't mean you're necessarily missing anything. It just means you have different tastes which is totally cool.
