So I tape this quote next to my computer, and Mom gets all fussy:
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 09:05 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
"My creed for art in general is that it should enrich the soul; it should teach spirituality by showing a person a portion of himself that he would not discover otherwise...a part of yourself you never knew existed."--Bill Evans, jazz pianist (Yes, it's my signature. :hi:)

Mom sees this: "What is THAT doing there? What is all this STUFF?" (I have other various saying taped around the computer area). My dad later told people gathered at our house for Father's Day that "{WIMR} is going existentialist, apparently...Hahaha..."

Thanks for your continued support, Mom and Dad.

:eyes:

:grr:

1. Parents!
They aren't worth the prison term it would take to be rid of them. ;)

2. Don't worry about it...
It's a great quote. Inspiration is a good thing, wherever it comes from.

I used to post all my rejection slips on the wall above my computer. :D

3. What's wrong with a little existentialism?
Will Smith was right - parents just don't understand.

4. Heh...that's why I keep all my quotes ON the computer...
and have mastered the art of the switch-application shortcut. Also, I'm sure to keep about 18 things open at once so I have something innocuous and/or confusing enough to switch to to keep my parents disinterested. :D ;)

9. The artist never really finishes his work...
he merely abandons it. Paul Valery

The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work. Emile Zola

No affectation of peculiarity can conceal a commonplace mind. W. Sommerset Maugham

I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way. Mark Twain

And lastly, from my friend, Ellie:
Money may talk, but it rarely says anything interesting. At least bullshit makes good fertilizer. Ellie Erickson

I used to have a lot of quotes on art, but they seem to have disappeared.

10. Y'know, WIMR
Sometimes...well...sometimes parents are just parents. You've gotta learn to roll with it. It's good practice for when You're a parent.

Think of it as living 'do's and don'ts'.

Next week, it'll be something else. Like the mismatched socks under the bed or the dust bunnies behind the dryer. It doesn't mean we don't love you, just the opposite, in fact. It's our job to keep you on your toes and a little off-balance.

Now...one more thing (and if word of this ever gets out, I'll deny ever even Thinking it) but....

See...we have to. It's our only defense; we're outnumbered, y'know....
