6. It's Kosher, though, so I wonder if there was any cruelty?
One of the things that kosher requires is no suffering and no cruelty to the animals.

So I'm curious how they managed to pull that off with foie gras; or if they've made an exception for "some small level of suffering".

9. Well, they say that, but...
kosher beef cows are killed by slitting their throats. Not exactly a death that involves zero suffering.

Mind you, I'm not a vagetarian or a PETA advocate or anything. I love red meat as much as the next fellow. But even with kosher meat, there's no such thing as cruelty-free.

11. Of course, my language was not sufficiently nuanced.
I meant cruelty-free in the "as much as possible" sense, knowing, of course, that the killing itself is never cruelty-free; but for Kosher, the suffering and cruelty should be as minimized as possible and the duration of it should be as short as possible.

Which makes me wonder how they do the Kosher foie gras - play Mozart while they stuff the throats?
