City considers banning the sale of toy guns
DALLAS (AP) - A proposal in Dallas to ban the sale of realistic-looking toy guns is spurring debate over the issue.

A city committee discusses the proposed ordinance Monday. It may also bar children from playing with fake guns in public and require gun replicas to be brightly colored or clear plastic.

But some critics say the proposal would be difficult to enforce and wouldn't stop accidental police shootings. One former police officer says swimming pools and bicycling without a helmet pose greater risks for children.

I think this is a great idea, some of those guns looking fucking REAL! I know they are required to put the fluorescent tip on the barrel, but those come off very easily.

1. I thought they were already banned
Maybe that's just in Michigan, or a decision by manufacturers.

2. They're not banned here
my Father hated us kids playing with guns. Cops and robbers, cowboys and indians, he didn't approve of any of it. My Father also wouldn't let us kids point the toy guns at each other.

:eyes: and I spend how much in tax dollars for these losers in government to sit on their ass and pretend like they're doing something? In fact, I think I'd rather pay them to just sit there and not do anything than make stupid stuff like this up. :sigh:

4. Law makers create and enforce more laws against sex toys...

...than laws that would protect kids like the toy gun issue.

5. This is what happens when the city council doesn't have enough to do.
Guess they already passed laws regulating grass length, wallpaper color and banning adult entertainment.

6. Toy guns looking like real ones are a problem
and a safety hazard to some kids...orange tips (easily removed) or not. But I was in the gun shop last year with a friend and they had a whole line of 'ladies' guns' that were in jewel tone and metallic colors (bright blue, hot pink, orange, green and purple) and looked like toys. I think these are even more of a hazard.

7. Oh brother...
next they'll ban bicycles, or maybe violent video games.

After that, why not rap music?

After that ... well, pretty much anything they want.

Unless there are other, reasoned, logical reasons, I am always wary of anyone who says, "Do it for the children."
