TV in the bedroom - yes or no?
I will be moving in with my boyfriend in a few months and we have 2 TVs so I was thinking we would have one in the bedroom.

But I have heard lots of people say couples shouldn't have a TV in the bedroom.

What do you all think?

P.S. We don't watch porn although neither of us are averse to it...we just don't - not to say we wouldn't.

1. Yeah, I have one. Sometimes you just want to crash out together and cuddle
and watch a movie or something. I like to turn on the news for a few minutes before bed. Never caused a problem in my relationship.

2. Do you watch the same things?
If you both have things you like to watch that conflict, having a second tv is a good idea although tivoing one and watching the other can work too.

I'm not crazy about multiple tvs myself, but I'm not much of a TV watcher anyhow.

4. we are both addicted to Countdown, Colbert and the Daily Show
so it isn't that we need the 2 - it's just that we have them.

The new place we HOPE to get is two stories with the master bedroom upstairs.

3. If you have sleeping problems - get rid of the TV
Bedroom should be for sleeping and sex not watching TV.

I was having problems sleeping at nights but mainly because I would put the TV on the timer and fall asleep to it. But TV playing while you're sleeping can disrupt your sleep cycles making you more exhausted in the morning because even while asleep your body can be affected by both the noise and the lights coming from the TV (I learned this all from my sleep doctor).

So I put the best TV in the living room and sold the other TV for $50 to a neighbor. I've been sleeping better at nights

7. That's a good point
As it is now, on some nights my boyfriend will be out in the living room watching TV when I'm already in bed (I get up earlier than he does during the week). But he sometimes falls asleep out there and eventually the TV will wake me up and I go get him.

The place we hope to move into has 2 stories and I'm afraid he will fall asleep watching TV downstairs and not make it up to bed at all!

5. my dear Beaverhausen!
Congrats on your impending move!

What I've read is that the TV in the bedroom is not a good idea...

It can apparently interfere with your sex life....and you wouldn't want that!

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary for the two of you...and the TV could be a third party that could get in the way.

12. Thanks CalPeg
We found a really cute house to rent and are keeping our fingers crossed that we get it.

I think I am leaning toward not having the TV in the bedroom. I think it would be too distracting...

17. No Never
No television in the bedroom. A bedroom is for sleeping or enjoying each other's bodies. Although sex can occur almost anywhere..(ever tried it on the washing machine during the spin cycle? huzzzzzah!) The bedroom is not the place for a TV unless you like watching Leno while in bed.

18. I sleep without another human, so I say yes
There are programs I'd like to watch my soon-to-be roommate does not, so having a TV in each room solves that problem.

For instance, I am a sports fan; my (soon-to-be) roommate is a movie buff. But we both like the History Channel, especially when ancient Roman history is on.

20. NO
Bedrooms are for SLEEPING (and - er - other activities) - but having a TV in the room is just bad for you.

You stay up too late. You watch too much garbage. If your partner wants to watch and you want to sleep - it can create "an issue" ...

no no no no no - a thousand times no!!!!

And never ever EVER put one in a kid's room!

22. Everybody is different.
If you put it there, and it causes problems, get it out!

Personally, my SO and I have a tv in our bedroom. We watch PBS together, discuss what we are seeing. We like to watch movies in bed. We play video games together on it. We are just more comfortable hanging out in our room anyways, and we don't have kids to worry about so it isn't an issue for us. When we have friends over, we prefer not to have a tv in the living room that is going to distract us from communicating with people. So we have it in our room. Works for us, and I promise it doesn't take away from our sex life at ALL. :)
