Do you have a Farmer's market to go to?
I just went down to ours this morning. It is a wonderful place. And just full of area produce right now.

Every ethnic group is there and you hear every language.

It is wonderful.

1. They just started a farmer's market nearby, get this, it's every week
on Wednesday until 7pm. Ummm hello? How the heck do I get there before it closes? Anyone heard of weekends? I'm so ticked, I'd love to get stuff from the local farmers.

6. That's a problem.
Not every location gets a weekend market. and weekday ones can only be open late if the farmer hires help specifically for it because even with 7 PM closing the farmers don't get home for hours. If the farms have to hire more help it cuts into the cost effectiveness of participating.

Where I used to live the market was on Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. I worked only a few miles away and was able to go there during lunch hour and drop the stuff off at home. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to shop there. That was in the Boston area however, where there's a market somewhere every day of the week in the summer. It was a matter of picking the location and day that worked best for you.

15. Yeah, the one in my neighborhood is on Tuesdays until 3
but I like the one on Saturday better anyway. It's a 20 minute drive but totally worth it. I'm soooooo not a morning person but I will get up at the crack of ass in the summer to make sure I get to the farmer's market.

2. Eastern Market in Detroit...
I love going and get some really good deals on produce and staple like brown rice. There is also a spice shop where you can get a great deal on saffron. But, you have to be careful. Some sellers get their "fresh" produce from grocery store dumpsters. It's huge and wonderful. :hi:

3. Wednesdays here in Sheboygan
Most of the farmers there are Hmong, and grow some terrific stuff.

Toward the end of the summer I buy fresh raspberries, yumyumyum... :9

4. Not where I am
Unless you count the various roadside stands that sell sweet corn.

But in Stevens Point, where I go to college, there's a great one!

5. Yes, and I try to go every week.
When I was living in Boston the state issued farmer's market vouchers to low income people. It wasn't much, a few dollars once a month, but it was a great way to benefit both the farmers and the people.

Kids at farmer's markets are a blast. They get so excited at the prospect of free samples and being able to talk to a farmer.

7. Before Katrina
there was a vibrant Farmer's Market in New Orleans on the cusp of the French Quarter. An incredible array of vegetables and recipes and tacky t-shirts and all kinds of stuff. It is slowly coming back vendor by vendor. And you can't beat a creole tomato from St Bernard Parish.

8. Oh, yes, I sure do!
There are several in my area.......

But I have one that I go to every week......in the town next door, El Segundo......

Thursdays from 3 to 7 pm......I have made friends with a few of the vendors, and we love to stand around and chat....

It is small, but has all I need!

I wouldn't miss it for the world.......:hi:

9. Yeppers, Thursdays and Saturdays in the mall parking lot. It's great...
veggies, free-range organic meat, homemade soaps, prairie plants, jams, jellies, pies...it's amazing.
I love shopping there more than anywhere else.

12. Every Saturday morning
I do not always get to it. Another one to check out is the one around Wisconsin's capital building in Madison. That is a really good farmers market.

13. Yes, one near downtown Houston on Saturday mornings. There are
at least 2 in Spring/Woodlands area 20-mi north, which isn't far for TX.
I'm headed ther today to shop with my daughter. There is also a nice little
sidewalk booth farmer's market in the Woodlands on Market Street on Sat. mornings,
only one small produce booth, but vendors with jewelry, homemade soaps, jellies,
pet treats, plants, etc.

We're eatin' goooood this week!

I love the farmer's market so much, can you tell? :)

Bought it from a Mennonite farmer. It is wonderful.

So are the cherries and the blueberries.

17. Yes, I go every Sunday.
There are a few others, but this one is best. What I don't like is that it doesn't open until 10. I like the early am ones.

18. I got to the market by 7 and it was already going full tilt.
Good thing because it is very hot here right now. It would be awful later in the day.
