Is proven a word or is there something wrong with spell check
I now use proved instead because I must admit I really don't know. I always "assumed" proven to be a regular word but spell check doesn't recognize it.

5. Any guesses why Spell Check won't recognize it?
I always thought so as well, but

8. How on earth would I know the answer to that? One thing for certain...
... is that if your particular spell check won't recognize it, so much the worse for your spell check.

10. I can tell you exactly why spell check does not recognize it
Because it is not in the spell checker's dictionary.

Why? I don't know, but that is how spell checking works. Brute force comparison against a library of words.

Most likely the word could be added to the dictionary.

Hmm, I just tried proven and it worked fine. Maybe someone snuck it in while you were discussing?

7. I noted that in the ol' "Bugs & Suggestions" forum years ago ...
... when the spellchecker was first added. It's a living (or dying) language.
