Poll question: Vote for the DU Holidays Wishlist finalists here
A few days ago, I posted a thread asking people to post the features they wanted to see most on DU, so we could create a DU Holidays Wishlist. The Admins picked 8 finalists, which you all can now vote on. The top 2, or possibly 3, choices will be programmed into DU by the New Year (or shortly thereafter, depending on how complicated the features are) as a Holiday gift from the Admins to the members.

This is your chance to get a feature you've always wanted to see added!

So, what feature would you like to see added to DU the most?

1. "My Recent Posts" allows for discussions to contiue...
... for a while after they've become old and inactive. Don't hate me, but I've managed to carry on exchanges on Free Republic for up to a week after the thread passed through the front page. I like that; it allows more agreeable ends to conversations, especially if I can't be at the computer every day.

4. since you have a star
it's very easy to do a search on every thread you've posted in within the past 24 hours, etc. Just search by author.

11. I'm lazy - I wanna be able to do it with one click.
It should just be one link tucked away somewheres, possibly on every page. Maybe everyone's screenname that's displayed should be a link to their most recent posts. I could look up someone else's recent posts, too, with a single click.

3. Hey, note the big vote for 'my recent posts,' and then ...
consider the 'responses to my recent posts,' with many fewer votes, but which COULD be considered an optional feature for 'my recent posts.' Put the votes of the two together, and 'my recent posts-plus' is still the front runner.

5. Well, even though my first pref is "my posts"...
I voted for "spellchecker" because the "my posts" is so clearly going to be a go, and "spellchecker" is my second most wanted feature.

6. Wait, I'm lost...
I've lost the ability to respond to polls without a "Robb is a dingbat" option. :D

7. All the above would be nice
But, nicest still would be to have the window for replies to fit on the page. Having to keep moving the bar to be able to see the right side is .... just plain annoying.

Waaaa, wish I could put that on the poll.... sigh...

Kanary, whose bar to move the page over is wearing out.... :)

8. hmm
That's not a problem for me, what settings do you have your computer on? Anything less than 800 X 600 is going to create problems like that for you.

12. It's not a problem anywhere else.
This is the only place I have this problem, so it's not my computer, thanx.

15. It's possible that you have large fonts turned on
ie, "Are you using Internet Explorer and wish to view DU in large fonts?" is checked yes on Preferences. I just did, and polls are somewhat too wide, although other threads appear fine. Probably not the cause of your problem, but great for my presbyopia.

I thought there was a known problem with another browser (maybe Mozilla) but I'm sorry to say I don't remember what that might have been.

14. All of 'em!
You could do that, slowly over the course of the year..maybe. OR maybe we could have a suggestion box room, kind of like ask the administators.

But, I voted for a sent message box feature for private messages. Because the others are pretty do-able for donors, you know searching for your most recent posts, etc. Or just copying your post into Word and doing a spellcheck...

16. Response feature
Sometimes there are particular posts I'd like to keep up with and can't find without doing a search. Other times I just forget. It would be nice to have responses to my posts pop up somewhere, like at the top of each discussion section or something.

But really, things are pretty ok the way they are!!

17. A late wish
Would it be possible to be able to see deleted messages somewhere? Maybe in a new board labeled "Idiocies".

I always miss this stuff, and it would be educational to see the depth of ignorance displayed by some of the lurkers.

24. I'm not in favor of adding spellchecking to the DU software. Here's why.
1) It would impose an extra load on the DU server every single time anyone previews or posts a message.

2) If someone is only borderline literate or PWI I like being able to tell from the way they post. They could hide behind a spellchecker, to some extent.

3) There is no better spellchecker than the one between your ears when it comes to recognizing homonyms and context. (see post #20)

21. EXACTLY!
LOL, I couldn't have said it better myself. I never use the spellchecker on my own computer at work and home, because it drives me crazy always wanting to change names of people, or it okays words that I KNOW are spelled wrong for the context because it didn't recognize the context.

Of course, that's the advantage of growing up with English teachers for parents, your spelling and grammar become near perfect as a matter of survival, lol!

23. Numerical Response indicators
I don't need for the actual responses to be listed, since that seems to be what's indicated here. I'd just like to have a numerical figure indicating the number of direct responses to a particular comment of mine. Having all the responses listed would be cumbersome and resource expensive since a controversial thread starter could have a hundred direct responses. I just want a numerical figure, so I know if anyone has responded, and if that figure has changed and I need to reply to new responses.

Elad, I don't know if you've had a chance to check out the CCN (www.forclark.com). But this feature is available to registered posters there, and that's what I'm asking.

The responses are not separately listed, but just a numerical figure next to each of my recent comments.

Thanks for taking the time and going through the effort of this wishlist. You guys are the best!
