How come Edith and Archie could stay together,
and Mike and Gloria ended up divorcing after 9 years?

I've been watching the 5th season episode of All in the Family, entitled "Gloria's Shock". Best episode ever. I don't know how I thought that, but it crossed my mind...

3. Despite some of Archie's treatment of Edith, he really loved her and
needed her. Edith accepted Archie and how their relationship worked itself out. They had a 1950's type marriage.

Gloria was very young when they got married. She wasn't on an equal footing with Mike. She grew a lot during the course of their marriage, and they couldn't figure out how to re-define the relationship.

4. Pity she cheated on him before divorcing...
I don't recall much of post season 5 AitF... :)

Even Archie, who I recall wanted to cheat once, didn't... (correct me if I'm wrong.)

6. yeah I think he was tempted
She was a waitress at the diner the "boys" went to at lunch. I don't remember if they kissed...I think they might have but Archie called it off. I'll be dammed if I can remember her name, the show went downhill once Mike and Gloria moved out IMHO

8. Maybe it was in Meathead's chroma-stones
Archie had a a very strong "father's intermission" about such things. Maybe a groinicologist could do a test fer it.
