EQUAL TIME: The official DOG thread
Sheeeessh I've seen about 5,000 different cat threads at the Lounge. Well we here at the DU lounge are proud to be equal opportunity posters. So here it is, the official dog thread. :D

*clears throat*

Thank you!

2. Cats rule, dogs drool.
I'm kidding.

I do love dogs, two of my sisters have dogs, and I spoil them rotten.

(Well, one of them I think is a dog, or at least a dog-shaped moose.) :-)

I've just always liked cats more.
(I am owned by 2 cats.)

3. Funny dog story
Edited on Sun Dec-28-03 01:51 AM by Selwynn
Well, funny to me...

I had a miniature schnauzer for a long time, great dog. That dog LOVED my grandpa for some reason. Probably because he fawned over her all the time. Every single time grandpa would be in his "chair" (grandpa had is official chair, which was a lazy boy recliner) that dog would instantly be up in the chair to lay next to him. If grandpa was there, that's where the dog would be every time.

One time the dog was coming in from outside, and saw grandpa in the chair and just spirited full tilt toward the chair. She took this huge leap into the air going for the reclined foot rest. At the exact same time she was going for the footrest, Grandpa, totally not paying attention to any of it, folded his paper and started to get up... putting down the foot rest...

I swear, from my perspective it looked like the dog actually hung suspended in the air for a second - and I swear to you, she just had this look like, "well that's just fucking fantastic." before she came crashing to the ground.

She was OK, and it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

But she use to love to play with one of my cats, so I guess the edge has to go over to the kitties corner.

13. Equal time for snakes!
My 6-foot boa, "Miss Hiss", used to give neck and shoulder rubs on command, ate & shit once a month. Can't say that for any of the 3 dogs I've owned.

14. Dog spelled backwards is...
A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?" Adam said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me everyday. Now I do not see you anymore. I am lonesome here & it is difficult for me to remember how much you love me."

And God said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever & who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are & will love you as I do, in spite of yourself." And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam & he wagged his tail. And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom & I cannot think of a name for this new animal." And God said, "No problem! Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG." And Dog lived with Adam & was a companion to him & loved him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content & wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to the Lord & said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts & preens like a peacock & he believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but perhaps too well." And the Lord said, "No problem! I will create for him a companion who will be with him forever & who will see him as he is. The companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he is not always worthy of adoration." And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam. And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being.

And Adam learned humility.
And God was pleased.
And Adam was greatly improved.
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a shit one way or the other.

15. Now you've done it!
After reading all the posts, my 12-year-old German Shepherd, Bruce, wants a cat more than ever.

He's always loved cats. Dogs confuse him. He hates birds (except to eat) and can't abide the squirrels in his yard.

Bruce is having a tough time getting up off the floor, the patio, the ground, and his bed lately. He'd still love to have a cat as a friend. Maybe I can find an old, arthritic cat at a shelter.

Or maybe we'll just get him a goldfish.

16. Nasha is same age.
She's a female German Shepherd and will be 13 in June.
On meds for arthritis and incontinence.
She has a cat, Ace.
Ace adores her, but, alas, it is unrequited.
She tolerates him, but draws the line at any actual show of affection.
:-(
