I returned a Christmas card to the sender
From an old flame that really broke my heart and stomped on it in the process.

She wanted to remain friends but I felt I would never recover if we remained in contact so I asked her never to contact me again.

Lo and behold, out of the blue she sends a christmas card complete with a picture of herself in her home in Hawaii with some inane Christmas greeting.

Frankly, I felt she was gloating.

So I put it in another envelope and mailed it back to her.

It may have been a bit petty but I feel better.

1. Good for you
I wouldn't have opened it when I saw the return address. That makes it even better.

she did not put her name in the return address, otherwise I would not have opened it. Sneeky eh?

2. Darn good !
I hate it when they do that kind of stuff. It can make you have bad memories and then feel bad.

Keep up the good healing. There is plenty of good life after a heartbreak. Sometimes, life is SOOOOOOOOO much better. We can never really be sure of what's around the next corner.

Oh, and she was the petty one to have sent you the gloat-o-gram.

Have a great new year OMG!

edit: cuz I am the typo queen

6. Well done!
And screw "petty" -- SHE was petty because you asked her not to try to get in touch with you and she basically said "screw that, I'll do what I want to do." SHE's the petty one.

YOU are the bomb.

7. Why the break up in the first place?
Did she cheat on you? Play mind games? Use you?
Who broke it off? Sounds like she did. Did she have a reason? Maybe she was having second thoughts and she was using that card to reach out to you for a second chance.
I for one need more to go on here before I will sympathize with you.

10. I learned a long time ago
don't be so quick to judge when hearing only side. There is usually enough blame to go around. Too many people play games & practice deceit. Not being fully honest kills the friendship, which then ends the relationship.

9. I think if she had been reaching out
Edited on Sun Dec-28-03 12:33 PM by OhMyGod
to me she would have included a message that was a bit more personal and maybe stated she was interested in talking. Instead it was impersonal.

And yea, she wanted the breakup. I was totally and completely in love with her but after 5 years she decided she wanted to relocate. I considered going along but she let me know I was not welcome.

On edit - Of course that is the very short version.

11. Before you mailed it back...
You should have written on it..."The islands must be treating you well, looks like you've gained some weight" LOL

12. wrong move!
Now she KNOWS it still hurts. You should have sent a return to her saying something like "your place looks great! I may be attending a conference (whatever) in Hawaii next yr, love to see it!"
"LOVE Hawaii! Just got back from 10 days there with my girlfriend"
"sorry I havent kept in touch, been so busy around here"
"just made a porn film with your sister"

Just a few ideas.............

Maybe I'll retrieve it from the mailbox and embellish.

On edit: I once considered telling a mutual friend that I had inherited a couple of million but my honesty got the better of me.

15. She WANTS you to respond.
Regardless if she wrote anything on the card. Now that you've found out what type of person she is, go ahead and send her a reply. Be nice, but let her know you are getting along great without her.
