I just got made fun of for being polite!

We went to Taco Bell to get dinner. When they asked me if I wanted sauce, I said, "Mild, please." And the girl kept repeating it. "She said Mild Please." blah blah blah. I hate it when people make fun of me for having manners. It pisses me off, actually.

I agree; a person to mock another for having manners... is truly unevolved.

I can almost justify the return visit of throwing the twerp's lack of manners back at them. When the manager comes out, say why and then offer or agree to never go back to that restaurant.

3. Marvelous customer service

You know, I work retail so I'm very aware of the level of service I receive in other places. I probably would have said something because that, in my opinion, is inexcusable and if nothing else, she needs a lesson in providing service.

I was in a tourist type store in a mall last summer looking for T-shirts for my friend's kids. I was unfolding them to look at the designs and sizes and then re-folding them and putting them back. There were 2 clerks and one was complaining loudly to the other about people who came in the store and "touched everything" and how they left stuff all over and she had to pick it up (what do you think you get paid for? I thought).

Anyway, I'd finally had enough so I turned and said sweetly, "I'm sorry, am I not supposed to handle the merchandise?"

She turned 3 shades of purple and stammered apologies, assuring me it wasn't me but others but the point was made.

Some people just shouldn't work with the public.

Also at Taco Bell. The register-girl was mumbling and I couldn't hear what she asked me. So I said, "I beg your pardon?" For whatever reason, they got great amusement out of that and their attitudes ticked me off.

I had some anger management issues at the time, so I'm not going to get into the rest of the conversation....

I'm in the South. While it's not as polite as it used to be, at least people remember there USED to be such a thing as manners.

There are two new hires in my office (just in the past two weeks). Both are at least 15 years younger than I, and both have already called me sir. We're clinging by a thread, but there ARE still manners.

I was asked to critique a friend's 16-year-old son's NHS essay the other day. He wrote about finding $300 at a car show and turning it in, only to be met with bewilderment and astonishment at his honesty. See what Bush has made acceptable? Yes, I blame him. If the Repugs want to blame Clinton for everything, I can do the same to their "leader!"

And without schools teaching morality, I guess we're stuck as a society. Parents not giving a damn so who fills the void? "Family Guy", "Barney the Dinosaur", what's on the iPod, and "Greg the Bunny"? :scared: You bet I'm scared, modern day media is empty and grotesque and no substitute for real parenting. (you should see the vermin I've observed at the local stores, especially walmart at around 11:30PM. Where the hell is social services to take that poor child away?!?!?! Sheesh, it's disgusting...)

The 16 y/o's story is a good one and it's a shame his classmates are so underevolved. :(

Bush's corporate-friendly policies that help keep people from having the time TO raise their kids properly IS a problem. Two parents having multiple jobs just for the basics leaves little time for the kids. One parent alone with one job is damn stressful enough as it is, never mind if the one parent needs more because her ex-husband was a letch or vice-versa.
