It's very quiet here now.
Jack and mommy and daddy left on the big airplane to fly home yesterday evening.
It was quiet on the ride back from the airport without Jack chattering away in the back seat.
It was quiet in the house when granny and grandpa returned.

Reminders of Jack were everywhere.
A small trail of raisins from the kitchen into the living room. Sometimes Jack spills.
Cookie crumbs on the couch and in the big chair where Jack sat to watch the Wiggles every morning. Jack's high chair is still at the dining room table.

During the week Jack was here, his tiny feet hit the ground maybe a half-dozen times. Most of the rest of his visit was spent on granny's hip. Granny's hip is just a little bit hippier than when a little girl rode there over 30 years ago, but it's still a good place to be. Maybe better, now.

Grandpa watches granny and Jack in the kitchen. Granny still remembers how to cook with one hand. Amazing.
We miss Jack.
It's very quiet here now.
:-(

9. I am just sitting her staring at the wall
Just took "boy" to the airport to go back for his last spring semester at SMS, and over the weekend sent the daughter back to her job in the midwest, after 10 day vacation. So I am just sitting here staring at the wall thinking about how many Corporate income tax returns I have to do in the next 75 days, and how to get that noxious shrub back to Texas or wherever. This is about as close to brain death as I have ever been

12. His smile could melt a glacier.
His grin could light the Grand Canyon at midnight.
He loves his granny, but he's not too sure about me yet.
I know it'll come.
Once though, we were out on the dock, feeding the gulls, and he put his hands up to me and said "Up?".
Oh my.
<melt>
