What is it with people and shopping carts?
I live a block from a Safeway. I just returned two carts, other people's carts.
One was left right in back of somebody's parked car across the way. I don't know who left it there but I returned it. My lungs are killing me because I have a cold and pushing a cart thru some snow ain't no fun. :(

What is with people? Sorry, but if you were strong enough to push it to your place you are strong enough to bring it back to the store. I see people in parking lot deliberately not take their carts back to the corral but place it right behind somebody else's car. I'm losing patience with people.
Last week I saw this pretty mobile older lady with two tiny little bags in the cart wheeling a cart back to her apartment, a 1/2 block from the Safeway. Two tiny little bags.

I know I'm obsessed, but come on, if I have 4 or 5 bags I carry it, I wouldn't take any stupid cart that wasn't mine. :(

1. I know what you mean.
You know, I lived in Germany back in the 90's and they had the best system. You put a coin in to get the cart (racked up in a row) and then you get your coin back when you bring back the cart. It was great. ..Actually, I found this out the hard way. Being a stupid American I just waltzed into a store and grabbed the nearest unattended cart, only to be berated in German by a very irritated (and gorgeous) frau. You have to bring your own bags there too. Europe is so far ahead of us environmentally.

2. When I lived in Sacramento
I would see older people using the carts, to push their goods to their nearby house, and leave the cart out in front of their home/apartment...I have also seen young kids use them for various...purposes.

3. you are cheating neighborhood kids out of their fun
they can play with the carts, decorate them, make them into little forts and throw snowballs around them, they can use them as go-carts down big hills, lots of fun.
