I just read that Mark McGwire got only 23.5 percent
of the Hall of Fame vote.

Sounds like somebody's tryin' to send a message.

1. Would you believe....
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 02:22 AM by reyd reid reed
this is the first mention I've heard of it tonight?

I'd heard rumors -- albeit a while ago and they *were* just rumors -- that he wasn't even going to be on the ballot. I'm glad it went the way it did.

(edited because I just went to see who made it)

Gossage is getting closer....71.2%.

4. Yeah...but there's a nifty new toy if you get too annoyed.
I'm happy for Gwynn and for Ripkin. Little sad for Gossage and for Santos, but...next year.

5. I wasn't surprised...
I'm actually kinda surprised that the percentage was that high. I don't think the reaction was unexpected.

Don't know if it'll be accepted, though.

7. Ha, I was surprised, I thought for sure they would
sweep this under the rug...but imo, if they keep Pete Rose out, they should keep this steroid guys out as well, but thats just me.

8. Yeah, but there's a whole
contingent out there who think that Rose oughta be let in.

I think that they sent a very clear message with the results today and anyone who DOESN'T get it has blinders on. But that's just my opinion.

Hey...Bonds...you watchin', Buddy?

Now I'm just gonna shut my mouth and take my li'l (ha) ass home and start to crochet.

G'night.

11. When what happened to Mcgwire happens to Bonds
in a few years, In typical Bonds fashion, count the seconds that it takes him to say that he wasn't voted in by the sports writers because their trying to hold him down because he's a black man. Scratch your head and just figure the steroids that probably swelled his head up also caused brain damage as well.

12. Reasons to put McGwire in the Hall
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 04:54 PM by dbaker41
1. Steroids weren't illegal/against the rules at that time.

2. He did exactly what MLB asked of him.

3. He and Sosa, in that magic summer, indisputably SAVED baseball after the strike, with the Great Home Run Chase.

4. It wasn't just one season, either, as he was pretty prolific slugger for several seasons - I'm sure others know the stats better than I do.

5. He was a damn good first baseman.

6. Like Bonds, he's never admitted he used steroids and to my knowledge it has been alleged (by Canseco) but never proven - even if "everybody knows he did it." You can say the same thing for Bonds.

Now, IF they're trying to send a message, and I can't dispute that certainly seems to be the case, then they'd by God better not let Bonds in. Although I doubt they'll keep him - Bonds - out. If they allow him to break Aaron's record for ALLTIME CAREER HOME RUNS, how can they keep him out of the Hall????

And do I think Pete Rose belongs in the Hall? Hell yes, as a player. HELL yes. But that's another discussion.
