Water in the basement
The pastures are flooded and the driveway was nearly covered. We've had so much rain that you can't go a foot in any direction and not touch water in my basement. I didn't have to deal with this all the years I lived in the city. I know the three main rivers that flow through my basement, but the little tributaries that have surfaced (literally, from the under the house through the cracks in the floor) are a real nightmare.

I spent several hours this morning re-arranging all the stuff I wish I'd lived without.

:(

1. Jeebus! That sucks!
I hope there isn't too much damage to the house or your stuff. I'm glad I live up high. Oh, and no basements, they'd be VERY expensive down here.

3. Not too much damage
I helped a friend move everything out of her basement when a sump pump failed. She's a few miles up the road from me.

She lost $1000's in that disaster. I learned to put the big plastic storage containers on the bottom and boxes on top.

But, with a foot of water, the plastic containers will float and flip. I just hope my pump can keep up with all the water.

7. Good luck to you and your pump.
Of all the things I have never had to think about...

8. Yea, sump pumps...
Who'd have thought I'd be relying so heavily on one?

11. Working in homeowner's insurance claims, I'd heard of them...
...but when I started I honestly had to ask what one was and did.

a lot of problems with that place, lizzie.

Do you rent, or own?

4. I rent
and honestly, I love this old house. But, living in it's like living with an elderly parent. They get cranky sometimes. ;)

9. Hello sweetie
I am well. Thank you.

The car is GREAT! It is so fast I can't believe it. I drive along telling myself, be mature, be mature, be mature but then the urge just comes to floor it and vrooooooooooom

One day I will grow up, maybe. I have turned into Mr. Toad.

:loveya:

The plumber called me back. :wow: He is coming round on thursday to look at my boiler! :woohoo:

10. Woohoo!!
Life is good. I hope the boiler problem isn't a big one.

I'm like you with cars. I'm really afraid to drive my dad's Corvette. I like going 80 in my Honda as it is. :wow:

12. ugh.
flooded basements are awful. especially when they are full of stuff, which seems to be all basements. good luck with the dry out-if we ever dry out!

13. Sorry to hear it, lizziegrace.
It's frustrating when the things we make and the things we own come face to face with what nature wants to do. Our stuff always loses, but human beings are pretty good at bouncing back. I hope your efforts to keep your things safe and dry are successful -- but if anything gets ruined, remember it's just stuff.

A person who tries to stand against the waves will lose; a person who learns to work with the waves will surf. But the waves are still there, just the same.
