Does anyone know how to get a jammed file cabinet drawer opened?
I just got a used lateral file cabinet, and the bottom drawer is stuck.

1. Make sure that all the other drawers are completely closed.
If that doesn't work, a pry bar might do the trick.

:)

2. Remove the drawer above it
if you can and see what's causing the blockage.

Or, try dynamite.

off the runners?

Just wondering if maybe something is extending too far and catching on the drawer above it. Though some file cabinets lock all the other drawers when one is pulled out, to keep them from tipping.

5. Chain Saw, perhaps?
Seriously, though, sometimes one drawer won't open because one of the other is not shut completely. Wiggle the other drawers and sometimes the stuck one will open.

9. Brute force and ignorance.
It's the only way.

Kick and scream at it until you've injured yourself. It'll quietly coast open while you're on your way to X-Ray.

12. take all the drawers out and flip it up and see if you can unjam it that way
it might be hollow on the bottom so you might be able to reach up in there and dislodge whatever is jamming it.

13. Not hollow on bottom, unfortunately.
I think I may have to wait for my husband to come home to fiddle with it.
