I am off to confront a co-worker
The head of this software project is apparently deeply bothered by the 6000 lines of code I wrote for it last year. Heck, my 'commit privileges' have been yanked. End-user reviews have been glowing, and fellow project coders were very pleased with the structure of the code and the easy means of expanding and modifying it.

But the boss-man hates it. Why? Because he's a barely-reformed Fortran 77 programmer who fears anything more complex than a 'DO' loop and my code pushes Fortran 90 to the limits. I had no guidance as to the code structure, incidentally, merely a list of requirements to fulfill. Anyway, I am going to have it out with him this afternoon since I am tired of feeling insulted by his ongoing reactions to the code. Fortunately I spend 90% of my time on other stuff now. Confronting someone like this is not in my nature, so I will fortify myself with some rooibos tea first.

Any pointers are welcome.

1. Just build a class to automatically confront him on a daily basis.

2. And be sure to reference count it,
so that when he tries to delete it, it's technically still there. :P

3. Don't accept crap objects from the boss object.
In fact, tell him in which object to stuff the entire class.

4. Dilbert, is that you?
I offer support. But I do not understand a word you said, right down to "rooibos tea".

6. sometimes I wonder what its like to work in a big IT dept
I guess I am not missing much. We have no such thing as code review here. It either works or it doesnt and I have nearly 100% ownership of projects from development to implemention.

On the down side, I am also the one who they come to when theres bugs.

7. it's a small place
The boss is supposed to be adding some features and making tweaks to my code, which would be easier if he would just tell me what he wants and have me do it. It's a small company, this project has 4 devoplers on it.

He finally gave me a list of requested changes last week...and wants them all written out on paper, line-by-line, and reviewed before any changes it actual code are made. Jay-sus, what a waste of time that is. It's not like this code runs power plants or pacemakers or anything. And he doesn't pull this shit with the other 2 guys. The last major piece of code he contributed was so riddled with bugs that as 3 months before it was usable.

So, come tomorrow AM I caffeine up and will have it out.

You need a new job! :-) Then you confront him with a big "I QUIT!" letter. :-)

On edit: perhaps you can find a new job with a boss who is more kind and willing to accept your spaghetti code! Just kidding!
