3. No...
if I'd been around in the sixties I probably would've been one of those intense and slightly scary guys in all black and a beret who was more interested in Leon Trotsky and Che Guevara than peace, love and understanding...

I would have said that your song was not like our song, and asked you to come to our Gathering of the Tribes at the Human Be-in. The more different songs, the better!

28. It's a dirty little war. Three-five-zero-zero. Take weapons up and begin to kill.
The drugs and the war were related in strange ways: I'll never forget hearing one ex-soldier say "what a trip" it was to machine-gun people while stoned ...

11. No....
And if I had been around in the 60's, I would have been one of the young types that disliked hippies because the majority of them were sons and daughters of the middle class who had the economic resources to go off and do crazy things without worrying about finances.

20. Yeah
I like to loosen ties and I like to drink beer. I just don't enjoy going to the mountains while I play the sweet potato, live on a commune, or live in an expensive urban area while holding no job but yet retaining the ability to have an easy access flow to drugs.

My mom was SO pissed, and I had to listen to her and my dad bitch about it for days on end. Them goldurned long-haired pot-smoking hippie types might not get there fast, but they generally eventually show up where they're supposed to be. :hippie:

45. But all those crazy things
were done out of love. The idea that the world didn't have to be the way it was, and that if we loved each other enough surely it would overflow into every heart and that all the world could dance in the sunlight as we did, no one stopped by war or poverty or oppression. It wasn't about doing crazy things, it was about making it so that everyone in the world could.

But maybe you have a point. While there was organic gardening and thinking and singing like a rising tide and the civil rights movement got close to revolution and rallies and marches and sit-ins and underground newspapers trying to get our soldiers home from a horrible war half a world away, did we do less than we could have to extend a hand and a song to our brothers and sisters impoverished and angry in our own cities?

And why am I saying 'we'? As if that was somehow my real time? Maybe my user name should be Othertimer.

18. Flowers are underrated...
In order to become a flower you must have been a seed planted in the earth and be determined to grow.

Also, the flower is only a stage. Pollinated flowers yield fruit.

When the initial superficial beauty dies -- the pollinated flower becomes an ancestor.

I DO NOT wanna be associated with whatever people think of Hippies, it's almost always a group to dump a lot of hate on.
But I'm all about some peace and nature and hugging some trees and growing some flowers. I'm waiting for dancing in fields and worshiping plants and sheep to come back in style, no kidding
