78. Great find.
I recall the liner notes for some Todd Rundgren and Utopia live album, wherein Utopia covered "Do Ya" by the Move, explaining that the Move once covered "Open My Eyes."

Both songs owed a bit to "Can't Explain" by the Who.

20. That's from an episode of 'Do Not Adjust Your Set'
which featured Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Eric Idle, with animations by Terry Gilliam. Neil Innes, who fronted and wrote all the songs for "The Rutles," also fronted the BDDDB; that's him on keyboards.

A year or so after this, these guys joined John Cleese and Graham Chapman, then of "At Last, the 1948 Show," to form Monty Python's Flying Circus.
And that, of course, was the greatest day in the history of the universe. :bounce:

Not that I grew up in Idaho...but, out in the sticks of E. Washington...the band
toured out in my area, often. Must have been about 14 when I first saw them.

I can't find a youtube for THIS 60's band but here is an audio of my other favorite 'local' band.

104. You do know they did some good acoustic stuff too?
They didn't just invent power chord rock. They did lots of good stuff that never got to the radio.

Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEx2UX1MSL4&mode=related&search=

Celluloid Heroes - The Kinks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxxiMBJknrc&mode=related&search=

They did an album called "Village Green Preservation Society" that most people know about. However, after that they did a double album called "Preservation Act 2" that had some amazingly good stuff on in a great variety of styles. Hard rock, vaudeville, etc. It's available from Rhino as a double CD.

It's about a societal revolution and a sleazy guy named Flash, "Second Hand Car Spiv" and how the Morality Police were going to take over. I used to hear this one on the radio (in about 1971) and wonder what in the hell it was from.

Sounding like an anemic Salvation Army Band:

"Down with sex and sin, down with vice, heroin,
Down with pornography, down with lust,
Down with vice, lechery and pornography.

Put all the pervs in jail,
Bring back the birch and the cat o'nine tails,
We're here to cleanse humanity,
from the man in the raincoat's pale faced glare
Let sodomites beware!!

Chorus: We are the new Centurions,
Shepherds of the Nation,
We'll be on our guard,
from sin and degredation.

We are the national guard,
Against filth and depravity,
Perversion and vulgarity,
Homosexuality!!
Keep it clean, keep it clean, keep it clean.

And there's more to it, but I don't want this post to get any longer.
Ray Davies is a %$#@ing lyrical genius!!

And this was before the Falwells and the Moral Majority and all that--just history repeating itself.

66. But where's that quintessential 1960s song, "Don't Walk Away, Renee?"
No 1960s collection is complete without it.

70. Thank you too much. That song IS the 1960s for me. An enigmatic song by an
enigmatic and soon-lost band, and a song that ripped your heart out every time you heard it. What could be more 1960s?

one incandescent moment? Do they truly understand what their songs once meant to us?

I do not have the faintest idea what the women who were in the band called "The Toys" are doing these days, but I want them to know that their song "Lover's Concerto" will live on in my heart forever.

And so many others. So many, indeed.

Thank you one and all.
