i almost aspirated stomach acid last night
woke up around 3 am.

could not breathe, tried to talk, make a noise (remembered that if you can speak, you ain't choking).

anyway, i felt this acid taste flooding in my sinus and i started getting a rattling, asthmatic wheeze going. drawing breath in, but no exhalation.

eventually it straightened itself out.

i'm glad i'm not a pill head anymore.

1. acid reflux...?
I used to routinely wake up choking until I started taking Nexium. Very nasty way to wake up.

3. i think more like sleep apnea
never really get heartburn or acid reflux (as a disorder).

i think the way i was positioned allowed something to flood back up and i almost breathed it in while sleeping.

5. Sleep Apnea
is where you stop breathing multiple times in your sleep

reflux is when acid comes up your esophagus and can cause aspiration in some instances

glad you woke up

you should see a doctor about it

either way- apnea or reflux or both maybe, can be serious things

12. I have GERD, which is different from occasional heartburn.
If this happens only once a month it's not good, but it's not reflux disease. You're right; not eating a large meal (spicy or not) before bed can make a huge difference and it's recommended for heartburn sufferers to not eat two to three hours before lying down.
P.S. any medication they give you will suppress acid production & not sedate you, so don't worry about going out like a rock star.
