So when you buy something on ebay
... you leave your feedback after you receive the item, right? I'm new at this...

1. That's right
Sometimes the seller will leave you feedback when they receive payment, but most wait to see what you are going to say about them.

2. Yes
You wouldn't want to leave good feedback as a buyer until you have item in hand and it's in good condition.

4. Yes
That's how it's supposed to work. I seldom leave feedback. Most sellers won't leave feedback until the buyer does. Which irritates me so I don't leave them feedback.

5. That's terrible practice. As a seller, I always leave feedback after payment received.
That's when the buyer's obligation has been met. As a buyer, I leave after item received, that's when seller's obligation has been met.

7. I think so too
I use the pay now option so I pay immediately after the auction ends. Like you said, I've met my obligation when I paid.

If a buyer waits for feedback before leaving any, they are most likely to leave feedback based on the feedback they received. I think that's wrong so I won't be a participant in it.

I've got 100% positive feedback & that's all I've ever left.

Here's to you for doing it that way. :toast:

6. Yep.
But some sellers are asshats and will leave revenge feedback, when they do not live up to their promises.

I always wait until after I receive the item AND after they have left feedback.

8. I usually leave feedback once the item is in the mail...
...as a way of record-keeping for myself, so I know at a glance what I've mailed and what I haven't. In the case of items that ship right from my suppliers, I process the order right away, so I leave feedback right away too. If a buyer really does leave an uncalled-for negative (and that's happened to me a couple of times, always over dinky $1 items), I can always append my comment to the original feedback. It doesn't wipe out their positive, but it sends a warning to other sellers that the buyer is unreasonable. (Sure, their obligation may technically end with sending payment, but they also have an obligation not to be a jerk, and to contact the seller first if they have some problem, rather than just spitting out a negative.)
