I know I just recently interrupted your sleep to give you my Valentine presents, but you seemed ok about that, and happy.

I like seeing you happy.

You told me you loved me, said you would hug the stuffed bear, and fell asleep.

You are my best friend, and I love you.

You looked at the candies and shook your head. You are trying to lose weight.

You took the blanket that I gave you, wrapped up in it, and fell back to sleep because you have to work very very early in the morning.

2. I have a brother

who has been dealing with brain cancer, and is expected to live only a few more months at the most.

I have washed the five tee shirts he takes off nightly because he can't stop sweating. It's like a river.

I have shaved him so he doesn't look like a bum on the sidewalk.

I have also cleaned up what has been left behind when he can't control his orifices. That includes vomit, shit and piss.

It's just I wasn't expecting that response and obviously couldn't know that my silliness would hit so close to a tender spot. When you're giving giving giving all the time, you by damn deserve to cut loose and discharge wherever and however it suits you.

In fact, it's necessary for you to be a little selfish sometimes and be a little of whatever you need to be, just in order to be there completely for your brother. I can imagine you might feel like you don't have a choice, being family and all, but you can choose how loving you are when you're cleaning up someone's poop and vomit. That can't be an easy job, so don't forget to love yourself however you need to in the process.

And do hang in there. You're doing a wonderful thing.
