We used to be sports editors of "sister" papers in a small, local chain. All we ever talked about was sports.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Pinnacle has carried a steady stream of articles describing evidence of global warning. Aside from a handful of letters to the editor, the other side of the global warming story has gone untold in this newspaper. John Bagley, Pinnacle's sports editor, is a devoted consumer of talk radio and conservative commentary. He presents the perspective from the loyal opposition today.
__________

I'm the sports editor of this newspaper so what do I know about global warming and the politics behind it?

Well, I can tell you I do know this. It recently snowed in Malibu. Dallas Texas was hit with two feet of snow a few weeks ago and the crop damage to Central California this winter is now estimated to be in the billions of dollars.

I guess it must be global warming, or as I like to call it global liberalism, at its finest.

Apparently not much.

4. "Loyal opposition?"
 I guess they quivered with agony coming up with that ...

Fun fact: Europe had the warmest winter ever; we hit 70° F in January, but you know, Europe isn't part of the known world anyway. If it snows in Malibu, there will be soon icebears.

"Global liberalism?" If he really believes that, I'd build an Apollo rocket, if I were him, because we're going to take over!

5. I think the editor, whom I've also known for years
and in whom I've been very disappointed since he took the reins of this paper, erred in including that disclaimer. Saying that one of your staff is "a devoted consumer of talk radio and conservative commentary" not only queers the 800 or so words following it, it doesn't do the paper as a whole any good. Journalists aren't supposed to wear their politics on their sleeves unless they're paid to do so.

6. Unless he's a columnist
and the newspaper sells Bush/Cheney 2008 bumper stickers, too. That's a death ride.

"Devoted consumer of talk radio," sounds like "He just can't get enough of Rush Limbaugh. He's shaking already." Ewwww ...

7. "Loyal opposition" That's rich!
"Loyal opposition to the FACTS! I get so tired of these people tossing out one instance of colder than normal weather as proof positive of a liberal agenda concerning global warming. The FACT is, there is solidly documented evidence of global climate change. The results of global climate change are in the news all the time. Glaciers receding at alarming rates, more frequent and much harsher storms, coral reefs dying, algae blooms due to warmer water, etc. And even if you want to deny all information about climate change, you would think it would still be important to find cleaner alternatives to provide energy and produce food. How long can we soil our own nest before it becomes hazardous to our health? Answer? It already has. Time to clean up our act. Last time I checked, we don't have a spare planet to move to once we trash this one.

8. Oh, Yes! Let's have a thriving economy in a stinking, unhealthy world!
He probably won't read the articles I linked to, but I sent him this email-

Dear Mr. Bagley,
I read your article about global warming in The Pinnacle online.
Have you heard about the dramatic increase in cases of asthma? Finding ways to reduce auto emissions would improve children's health. (or are they canaries in the mine?)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16831975/

If energy company CEOs are looking at ways to reduce greenhouse gases I think you should let down your defenses a little.
http://www.pewclimate.org/companies_leading_the_way_belc/company_profiles/cinergy/

The U.S. could develop innovations to keep the earth's atmosphere from getting dirtier. Would that be bad for the economy?
Sincerely,
(me)
