I really didn't want Jennifer Hudson to win
I really don't know why. She is a lovely girl, very talented but I just wanted Abigal Breslin to win. Maybe it was the American Idol connection. Plus everyone knew that she was going to win, I found her reaction a little phony.

7. Yes. she was the most hyped.........
everything I heard and read anyways.

Then there was a bit of a backlash, like she's a really good singer, but should they be giving out Oscars for singing?

that's wrong, plain and simple. ;)

lots of misses in Oscar history.

Hudson may be an outstanding singer, but she still has to prove it in the field of acting. Just sayin'...... :)

29. well, they are all talented to a degree but the oscars.......
has always had some questionable and/or political choices in the past.

Just for instance, I don't know of one person who believes Gwynth Paltrow deserved her Oscar. The most negative reaction I've heard were from actors themselves.

25. Maybe they thought she's actually a bad singer in real life
so her singing so well in the film was an Oscar-worthy performance?

4. I didn't see Dreamgirls
but I saw most of the other nominated performances (for best supporting actress) and there were some really outstanding performances. It's hard to imagine that someone with no acting experience was that great. Was she really that good?

18. I thought she was very good.
She was certainly better than Abigail Breslin, who was extremely cute in Little Miss Sunshine. I didn't see Babel (from which two nominees came) and I can't remember the fifth nominee.

My only quibble was that she should have been nominated as best actress. Her role really wasn't the supporting one.

5. She's a singer, not an actress....
which is a little odd that she won, but so be it.

the role was tailor made for her.......I don't think she'll be getting any other roles like it.

6. Wow. If anyone deserved to win it was Jennifer Hudson.
Did you see the movie?

I've never been to a movie in my life where the audience stood up and cheered for a performance before. Especially half way through the movie.

The public has been rewarded with this Oscar.

42. I loathed her on AI, and I was even rooting for her to win
Hard luck backstory, made it onto AI, and three years later won a Golden Globe and an Oscar.

I still think she's arrogant and annoying, but her reaction was heartfelt, and I'm glad she won. She was great in the role. And, anything that I know annoys Beyonce is just icing on the cake.

and winning a few years ago makes you somehow ineligible to win now?

Well, someone could say that the only thinkg Hudson did was sing a song.

34. No. All I said is that she won a couple of years ago.
She'll win another one sooner or later. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Hudson did more than just sing a song in Dreamgirls.

I'm not up for an Oscar, so it's no big deal to me who wins. I'm certainly not going to get upset over who wins or doesn't win like people did last year when Crash won over Brokeback Mountain.

45. You get nominated FOR THE PERFORMANCE
Not for your career, although the Oscar is often unfortunately given for the latter.

That's what the Oscars are supposed to be, whether it's your first movie or your one millionth. And, that's what I like about the Best Supporting categories -- they often reward unknowns or newbies: Jennifer Hudson, Harold Russell (Best Years of Our LIves), etc.

37. I am glad to hear she won
I always think of people like Tamyra Gray and Latoya London, who were voted off Idol even though they were more talented than people who got to stay. I'm elated for her. I was elated when Hilary Swank won for Boy's Don't Cry...that is one of my favorite 'award' moments.

38. Personally, I did want Jennifer to win. I feel so happy for her.
she totally deserved it, imo. I know the conventional wisdom was that she would win, but I think her reaction was one of genuine surprise. She hasn't been around the biz that long to develop a hardened and jaded outlooks. She still seems really fresh to me.

In any case, I'm thrilled for her.

Abigail is darling, but she's got plenty of time to develop her craft. I would've been shocked if she'd won. Just my two cents.

:hi:

39. Nope, still not buying it
Its an insult to actors like Forest Whitaker who had some hella damn good roles early in their careers and got robbed on their performances. Or how about Martin Scorcese waiting so long to get an Oscar. It cheapens the award, its ridiculous.

I still congratulate her for winning though. I congratulate anyone who won.

47. Thank you!!
It is kind of cheap that Scorsese wins an Oscar the same year that a reality show contestant---not even one who WON, mind you---wins one. Once again, Jennifer Hudson acted like a singer on American Idol, and couldn't convince people who believe that Taylor Hicks has soul that she's a singer. So, she wins an Oscar for ACTING LIKE A DAMNED SINGER!!! Remember when Courtney Love won the Golden Globe for playing a junkie whore, and everybody collectively snickered at the typecasting? That's good for the Golden Globes, where every step in the process involves intoxication, but the Oscars?! Fine, Jennifer, 14:59 and counting.
